Shelter News from Shorty the Cat's Point of View

We Wish You a Mewie Christmas
Uhoh! There's not going to be a lot of Ho Ho Ho's around here when my people friends find out that my Santa suit doesn't fit me. Shorty how did that happen, did it shrink?
I wish that were the case Sam, but the reason it doesn't fit is I am really stressed out. When our people friends are upset about the Shelter's finances, like they have been, I get upset too, and I eat, and eat, and eat! Now look at the mess I have gotten myself into.
Shorty what are you going to do? They're going to find out sooner or later. Why not just tell them now and get it over with.
Me tell them? Not if I can help it! As you can see I have worked very hard decorating the shelter so it looks festive for the Christmas Open House, which should make our people friends happy.
You did do an exceptional job with the decorations this year, but how are you going to get around the Santa suit issue when they ask ..... And you know they are going to ask.
I've got it all figured out Sam.
What are you going to do?
I'm holding Santa tryouts today.
Oh Shorty you are so smart! Slurrrrp!
Yuck! Dog lipsl I appreciate your accolades but stop with the dog kisses. Exactly why I always say "dogs drool and cats rule." Now come outside with me to get things ready for the tryouts.
"Shorty? Sam? Where is everyone? It's so quiet in here I could hear a pin drop. I know I was at the store longer than I had planned to be but it looks like Shorty and Sam have everything under control. The decorations are all up, the outside lights are twinkling and all the puppies and kittens are on their best behavior... hmmmm this is too good to be true. Not once have the puppies knocked over the Christams tree, and the only things hanging from the branches are the ornaments... Not the kittens! Even the Christmas stockings are hung like I wanted, and I never had to lift a finger to clean up any messes - unbelievable! But still as perfect as things appear I can't help feeling that there is something wrong with this scenario, especially since I can't find Shorty and Sam anywhere. Not even running the can opener made them come running. That is odd, they must be up to something."
Ho ho ho! Ho ho ho!
"What is all that ruckus outside? I better go check it out."
He he he! He he he!
"Shorty! What's going on out here? I just noticed the sign out front says: Santa try outs today at 1:00 p.m. bring your own Santa suit! I think you two have some explaining to do! Look at all the people out there dressed as Santa Claus saying Hohoho!"
This was supposed to be a surprise. We were holding Santa try outs, and I told everyone to practice their Ho ho ho's. They need to get that down pat for the puppies and kittens.
"Shorty, you always enjoyed playing Santa Claus, what gives?"
I just thought might be nice to have a change this year.
"I know we can't have Sam or Stinky do it because we don't have a Santa suit to fit them, and besides they are both girls. We could have Rusty do it if you didn't want to."
That's true Rusty would make a good Santa, but since we are about the same size, he wouldn't fit into the Santa suit either. OOOPS!
"Ah hah! Tne cat's out of the bag, now I know what this is all about. Shorty why didn't you just tell me the Santa suit doesn't fit?"
I didn't want to say anything because I thought you would be upset, since it is all my fault that it doesn't fit anymore. I didn't want the expense of a new Santa suit on top of all the rest of the bills.
"Shorty I don't want you to worry about the bills, that's my job. Our friends have always been there for the shelter, and all the animals. But now getting back to Santa, we can't leave all these people stand here saying Ho ho ho much longer so you better make your decision."
Shhhhhh!!!! Did you hear that? Sounds like sleigh bells to me.
"It sounds like sleigh bells to me too, and it sounds like the sleigh just landed on the roof!"
Could it be the real thing?
"Real what, Shorty?"
Santa of course! You do believe in Santa don't you?
"Of course I do Shorty, it's because of our "Special Santa's" that TLC can help so many homeless animals, and that in itself is a miracle."
Please tell everyone thanks for trying out, but I think we have the problem solved since the real Santa just landed! Well I gotta run!
"Where are you off to Shorty?"
To make sure my Christmas stocking is hung!
Love,

Shorty

...and Shorty was heard to say as he walked out of sight,Merry Christmas to all and to all a Good Night!

Cans for Critters

We are still collecting aluminum cans for the shelter, which helps bring in an extra $200 to $400.00 (depending on the fluctuating price of aluminum). We ask that ONLY ALUMINUM be brought in as the scrap company does not take steel cans. We also request that garbage not be thrown in with the cans. It's not fun to sift through the garbage, and at times it is dangerous since we have found broken glass mixed in with the cans. Thanks for helping and for being so understanding.

Sending flowers or a nice fruit basket for the holidays?

Try Floral Alliance and you'll be helping the animals too! Your floral order can generate anywhere from a $5.00 to a $14.00 contribution to TLC. Next time you're sending flowers call Floral Alliance at 1-800-423-5803, and use TLC's code NP-1136 so the shelter receives the donation.

Well deserved accolades go out to the TLC VIP's

The TLC VIP's are a special group of people and so are their canine counter parts. They spread cheer throughout the year, to residents at area senior care facilities, and facilities for those with special needs. Many of the residents cannot have a pet of their own, and sorely miss the companionship of a furry friend. The VIP visits help fill that void and have a soothing affect, bringing smiles to so many people. (As a matter of fact blood pressure readings are not taken while the VIP's are visiting, the calming effect lowers the blood pressure quite a bit so an accurate reading cannot be gotten!) In addition to these visits VIP members have done school programs, library reading programs, hospice and safety village.
We are extremely proud of the time and dedication our VIP members and their canine counter parts put in. We don't get to brag as much as we would like to about this great group, but they definitely deserve accolades for the wonderful job they do: A big thank you goes out to Annie Coleman and her buddy Squirt, Kathy Kanak with Levi Jean and Katie, Charles Kopeika with Sugar, Gerri Pajkos with Megan Belle, Kathy Przybyla with Pal and Buddy, Judy Kunkel with Sully and Princess Stinky, Connie Bylsma with Jack, Mary Ann and Amy Lukas with Mia and Shelby, Linda Davis with Nugget and Deuce, Grace Mueller with Rusty, Clare Paskiet with Edy, Lottie Johnson with Ozzie, Joan Wick with Shane.
If you were to ask any of the VIP members what they get out of these visits, their reply would be the same, "seeing the smiles on the faces of the people they visit", adding "that is reward enough."
If you think you have what it takes to be a VIP member please contact us about this very rewarding program.
