SHORTY CAN DO VIRTUALLY ANYTHING

STOP! Sam don't seal those envelopes yet, something is mlssing!
Now you tell me, just as I was concentrating on how good the shelter's birthday cake is going to taste in order to get my creative juices flowing.
Creative juices? That's just dog drool!
Call it what you will, but it sure works well on getting the envelopes sealed. Anyway why did you tell me don't seal the envelopes, you know we have to get this mailing out ASAP.
I know we have to get it in the mail ASAP but did you forget what time of year it is?
Of course not! It's a very important time of year, it's TLCs 34th birthday, and if you would let me get to sealing these envelopes, we could enjoy a piece of the shelter's birthday cake as soon as we're finished.
I know it's an important time for TLC, but did you forget about Rafflemania? We ALWAYS send out raffle tickets this time of year, but I can't find them anywhere!
Everything's okay Shorty, it's just that our people friends made an important last minute decision to change the date of the raffle in order to raise more money.
I don't understand why changing the date from June until September will help anything. People are going to be confused since this is an annual event.
They said folks were telling them it was difficult to sell raffle tickets while at the same time trying to raise pledge money for the walkathon when they are both held about the same time. Knowing how badly the shelter needs a new roof, along with repair to the ceiling in the dog kennel they thought changing the raffles date might help raise more money in the long run.
That sure makes good sense to me, So Sam get those "creative juices" flowing so we can get this mailing done, but before you start please get that shoe horn off the desk.
I left it there, so I wouldn't forget to give it to Annie Coleman, she needs it.
Why would Annie need a shoehorn?
Annie said she has so much garage sale stuff packed in her house and garage, that she needs a shoe horn to get in there.
Annie was semijoking, She really doesn't need a shoe horn, but I will admit she does have things stuffed to the hilt, and hasn't room for anything else, Annie told me what she really needs are buyers, so we better remind our friends that TLC's garage sale is May 9th and 10th at 422 Hillview, Lemont.
Roof! Roof! roof!
And yes Sam, the money raised will help pay for the shelter's new roof, and so will the money from the walkathon. By the way, I already started working out for the walkathon, and I plan on finishing the entire route.
Shorty when have you been working out? All I've seen you do is sit in front of that computer.
That's where I have been working out ..... working out the final details on how I'll be able to complete the entire route this year, because the shelter needs the money.
Shorty that is very admirable but I can't imagine you walking the entire route.
I didn't exactly say I would be walking the entire route.
Then how do you plan to do it? I know, I have a good idea we can be a team. I'll walk the route and pull you along in a baby stroller.
Thanks for the offer but.....
And our people friends can get you a cute little baby bonnet to wear and...
ENOUGH already, thanks but I am NOT riding in any baby stroller, and I am certainly NOT going to wear a baby bonnet!
Shorty if you are not physically going to walk it then how are you going to do it?
I am going to do a virtual walk.
Virtual walk? What are you talking about?
I'm going to ask Sandi if there is any way I can do a virtual walk via the computer.
Hey is that fair? Besides, think of all the fun you'll be missing out on at Dell Wood Park, like jumping into the creek!
My favorite thing to do with the exception of being given a wet dog drool kiss, thanks but no thanks.
Well if your idea of a virtual walk is okay with Sandi it's okay with me, but personally I wouldn't want to miss out on all of the fun at Dell Wood Park. So Shorty you do it your way and I'll do it mine, and lets see who can raise the most money for the shelters new roof!
Sam, you're on! Hey, what was that noise?
don't know Shorty, but it sounds like the noise came from the kitchen.
Sam if we're all in here, then who is watching the cake? Uhoh gotta run!
Love,

Shorty

Cosmic Bowl a Total Sell Out

The Cosmic Bowl was a total sell out again this year! If the bowling alley had the space, we could have easily sold another one hundred tickets. It was a fun fast paced evening for one and all. The food was delicious, the games were fun, all adding up to a great evening spent with other animal lovers. The only regret anyone had was that the evening seemed to end too soon, but then time always flies when you are having fun.

We had several great raille prizes that were donated for the event and want to thank the following people for their generous donations including: the Endebak Family of Lockport for the Ryobi Router/Router table Combination Kit, and also for the measuring cup containing a $75.00 Bed, Bath & Beyond gift certificate, Jen Jepsen the Manager of the Cinemark Theater in Woodridge donated 4 guest passes to the Cinemark Theater, a pair of ladies pearl earrings and a ladies garnet and gold ring was donated by Jennifer Schaefer of New Lenox, an adorable stuffed dog and a stuffed cat donated by Lange's Woodland Flowers in Lemont, a Cat Basket of Goodies and a Dog Basket of Goodies donated by Chicagoland Tails Magazine, three $75.00 portrait gift certificates from Fender and Donisch, a spa basket with Rosemary Mint Body lotion and shower gel, along with foot & body lotion was donated by Jean Marie Salon of Lockport, Lena Harston owner of Contours Express donated a one month guest membership for two, Gerry Pajkos of Orland Park donated an ornate general store, and two Liquor baskets donated by Mr and Mrs. Enguita of Carol Stream, completed the list of prizes.

We also want to mention that Elaine Tryjefaczka outdid herself baking four huge trays of delicious cakes and cookies, for folks to enjoy.

We wish to thank the our great volunteers that helped in making the night a success including Vicki Tryjefaczka, Mary Ann, Amy and Mark Lukas, Michele and Josh Chalifoux, Keith Miller, Casey Carter, Dan Zak, Annie Coleman, Donna Holous, and Denny Carter for all their help setting up, checking people in, helping set up the food, and working the raille, and cleaning up.

If you were unable to make it this year, you missed out on a good time, so mark your calendar now. We have already confirmed the date for next years' Cosmic Bowl, which will be February 14th. See you then!

Special Thanks to

Jennifer Zerm and Alexis Tretter for going above and beyond to help the shelter out, with some legal matters. Jennifer and Alexis put in many hours, not to mention their travel time to assist TLC, and the did the work pro bono. We wish to extend a heartfelt thanks for going out of their way to help us, it was greatly appreciated.

Bertha Fund in need of Help

The Bertha Fund has been a lifesaver for numerous animals at TLC. As always there were numerous animals brought to TLC that required more extensive medical treatment. Just a few of the more extensive conditions that we had animals treated for were mange, bronchitis, pneumonia, heart worm, and a number of various surgeries. We are pleased to able to say that all of these animals are back on their feet and have since found new homes.

Bubba pictured here, was just one of several animals money from the Bertha Fund helped in the past few months. Bubba's first course of treatment included curing a bout of pneumonia. After he totally recovered from that he was able to undergo the surgery needed to remove his left eye, that had been severely injured and was causing him problems. Bubba has since had his stitches removed and is doing well in his new home.

Needless to say, all the money spent on medical treatment for these animals was worth every penny. The only problem we have encountered is the tremendous fmancial strain it has put on the Bertha Fund. We appreciate the donations you have made in the past to the Bertha Fund, and hope we can count on you for your continued support. many animals lives depend on it!

Pedigree Buy a Bag Program

We have recently received several coupons for FREE 22 lb. Bags of Pedigree Dog Food, any variety, thanks to folks that have signed on to participate in the "Buy a Bag Program". All you have to do is visit www.dogsrulegear.com and purchase PEDIGREE Food for Dogs through the Pedigree Buy a Bag Program featured on the site. Pedigree then matches their donation. This enables you to double your food donation to TLC!

TLC Website and My Space

The TLC Website and My Space have been a great boon for adoptions. Every Friday Sandi updates our Who's/Who list of wonderful animals that are in need of homes. Sandi has also been including a video of one of the animals each week making your visit to the website even more delightful to view. (One of my favorite videos that Sandi has recently done is a "Tribute to Animal Rescuers" which is really touching and oh so true!) It is fun to see who the weeks Star will be and what Sandi comes up with for the video and what song she will match to it.

We also have TLC Groupies that check the website at least once a week in order to see who is new at the shelter, and also to see who has been adopted. As we make the information available to Sandi, she marks the pictures of the animals in bright red letters "ADOPTED," which brings smiles to the faces of so many of our "web - watchers", they also root for those still at TLC, hoping they will find their forever home soon. Some folks will even make a donation to sponsor a particular animal to help in getting it a home, and pick out an icon to draw even more attention to that particular animal.

TLC also has a My Space site that is maintained by Brandy Gergescz. Brandy adds the pictures that Sandi has taken to the TLC My Space site plus other niceties to help bring awareness to the help promote the adoption of the animals at TLC. Kudos to these ladies for taking the time to do this in order to help adopt out so many wonderful animals.

4 Love of Pets - First Aid, CPR & Care for Your Pets

TLC will be hosting a one day workshop at the Homer Township Hall on feline and canine CPR. Some of the topics that will be covered are bleeding and shock management, snake bites, insect bites, rescue breathing, and much much more. This training does not replace getting your pet to your veterinarian, but it may help you save your pets life in the interum. These life saving techniques are especially important if you are on vacation, and also for those of you who do transport/rescue runs, and may not know where a nearby veterinarians office is located.

The fee for the class is $119.00 which includes a box lunch from Jimmy Johns (we will be sending a registration form and lunch menu in our next mailing or you may register now on line at www.tlcanimalshelter.org and make your payment through the internet) The class will begin at 9:00 a.m. with a mid-morning break, lunch break and an afternoon break. The instructors will circulate with the students making sure they understand techniques shown and answer any questions you might have. There will be review questions and certification for passing the program. There will also be prizes too making the class not only informative but also fun! Class runs an average of 5 to 7 hours depending on how much time it takes for each individual to be comfortable with their hands on skills. The instructors want to make sure everyone is confident in their abilities when they leave for the day class hours but may run longer if needed. To keep distractions to a minimum we request that nobody bring their pets, Dummy dogs will be used.

Pet of the week on WCCQ

WCCQ will be airing the Pet of the Week on Mondays at 4:30 with the "Bossman' doing the read. We want to thank Gary Tippett owner of K-9 Guardians in Lockport for sponsoring the Pet of the Week Feature for TLC. The pet of the week will also be featured on the WCCQ website. Thanks again Gary!

You Ought to be in Pictures!

Or at least your pet should be! TLC's favorite Pet's Photo Contest begins on July 1st, so you have pleanty of time to capture your pet on film. The 12 winners will be chosen by you to star in the 2009 TLC Favorites Pets Calendar. Just like last years fisrt place winner Riley (pictured here) who is the best buddy of Joseph Solek. Drop your photos off at the shelter or mail them in. You can also send them to our webmistress via the internet at www.tlcanimalshelter.org

Your old gold jewelry could help the animals. Ifyou have old jewelry that you no longer want you can donate to TLC. In turn we can turn it into cash to help the animals.

YIKES!

Postage costs how much? YlKES! With postage rates skyrocketing, just as with everything else, we are trying to cut costs in order to save money needed to help the animals. We hope that you know that we appreciate your donation, but if your canceled check is sufficient we ask that you check the box on the return envelope, that none is needed. Every penny saved is just more money that we can use to help the animals!
