Shelter News from Shorty the Cat's Point of View (the cat about town)

Shorty's Year End Review

Hi!
We are on such a tight schedule to get this newsletter out before our bowling fundraiser, that I thought it would be easier for my people friends if I combined some of the goings on in my column. Let me know how you like it. If you don't like it then tell my people friends.

Craft Show was Great!
This years Holiday Magic Craft Show was a big success raising over $5,000.00! The baked goods, I was told, were better than ever, a total sell out, and I didn't even get a sample, not even a crumb, and I also missed out on Lila Konow's cat nip balls! HUMPH!
That was not the way the plan was supposed to go, I thought I had a foolproof plan, as to how I was going to get some of those yummy baked goods. I told Annie Coleman I would be more than happy to help. I told her I could set up the bakery table, on Friday and help sell the bakery on Saturday along with helping with the refreshments. Annie replied
"That's okay Shorty, I have plenty of help," then she began rattling off the names of all the volunteers including Val Kot, Corey Carter, Judy Kunkel, Kathy Przybyla, Michelle Chalifaux, Nina Pellici, Sharry Cernuda, Donna Holous, Wayne Holous, Vicki Tryjefczka, Denny Carter, Gary Tippett, Gerry Pajkos, Sandi O'Brien, Sal Maratto, Kendall Lupine, and Michele Marato. Okay so you don't need my help in that way, but you didn't say you had anyone to cook. Annie replied, "Oh I forgot to mention that Cathy Melton would be cooking assisted by her friends Janet Hoff and Bonnie Ausley, and when Cathy has to leave then Judy Kunkel will take over." DRATS! Annie was on to me.
As boxes and bags of crafts were brought to the shelter, I had Sam with her sensitive nose sniff for anything edible, and we would share whatever she sniffed out ....... as luck would have it there was nothing but crafts in those boxes and bags. Now mind you, I'm not complaining, I think it is wonderful how so many people put so much effort into making things to help the shelter raise money including:
Kathy Reinhart, Linda Muhr, Clare Paskiet, Darlene Kolody, Kate and Jeff Eagan, Katie Eagan, Mable Chapman, Lee Ann Mayr, Dorothy Novak, Katherine Ashe, Mike Brown, Phyllis Klingensmith, the residents at Marian Village, Kathy Kanak, Florence Smith, Irene Sezniak, Millie Tesar, Barbara Griffen, Belle Schultz, Betty Zaramba, Donna Kargol, Members of TOPS #2248, Cathy Melton, Gail Elisiak, Lawrence and Joan Reylek, Maebell Howell, Jim and Bev Roseth, P. Kanyuh, Betty Zaremba, Mr. and Mrs. Mike Martin, Cindy and Vince Berry, Val Kot, Nina Pellici, Judy Kunkel, Kathy Przybyla, Michele Chalifaux, Michele Maratto, Sal Maratto, Kendall Lupine, Patti Robinson, Rhonda Colon, Yvonne Mautner, Florence Mitchell, Elaine Tryjefaczka, Tina Jones, Linda Nylen, Nancy Vales, Charlotte Wright, Tracy Jaramillo, Marilyn Hagedorn, Maureen Hagedorn, Sharry Cernuda, Chris Pieczonka, Vicki Tryjefaczka, Jennifer Ward, Rosemary Adams, Susan De Santo, Gerry Pajkos, Brian Smith, Clarke Smith, John Small, DJ's Bar and Grill, Alison Andrew's Day Spa, Katheryn Therry, Donna and Wayne Holous, Terri O'Toole, Beth Manion, Valerie Doubrawa, Erika Follkie, JoAnn Follkie, Debbie Pellici, Linda Vlaeminek, Sandi O'Brien, Janice Faikus, Lila Konow and *Pam Brown. Pam Brown held her own bake sale for TLC where her husband works and raised $430.00 for TLC! I also want to thank Sal Maratto for the neat items we raffled off at the sale.
I volunteered to "cleanup" any baked goods that were leftover, but the bakery table was empty, as were the majority of the craft tables. That's when Annie stepped in and said she would take the remaining crafts and sell them for the shelter at another craft show, where she made $222.74 for TLC!

BORDER's Gift Wrapping Fundraiser

When we heard that Kat Tempinski had set up a fundraiser at Border's Book Store in Orland Park, we were eager to help. Borders would provide the wrapping paper, ribbon and tape, and all we had to do was wrap people's purchases, and the money made from wrapping peoples gifts would go to the shelter. Hmmmm that sounded easy enough, how much work is it to wrap a gift? Tiny was to cut the paper and Stinky would tape one end while Sam would tape the other, and I would top it off with a bow. Tiny did his job purrrrfectly, then Stinky tried taping and got the tape stuck to her paw, Sam went to help her and now the two of them were entangled in the tape! Seeing their dilemma Tiny attempted to help get them out of their mess, but as Stinky and Sam jumped around trying to loosen the sticky mess, they ended up getting Tiny entwined in it too, and the bow ended up stuck to the top of his head. It was not a pretty sight, and we really did not want our people friends to see this. I made all of them sit motionlessly as I carefully snipped away the tape. Sam was so happy to get the tape off, she gave me one of her big slurpy dog kisses YUCK! I decided right then and there to leave the wrapping up to
Kat and Mike Tempinski, Kathy Pryzbyla, Gerry Pajkos, Judy Kunkel, Chris Pieczonka, Rosemary Webster, Sue and Caitlin Kerfin. Thanks for getting us out of a very sticky situation, so to speak, and for donating your time to raise money for TLC.

Well, I've gotta run. Sam and Stinky have set up the bowling pins in the kennel in order to practice for the cosmic candlelight bowl on February 12th, and I'm up.

CRASH, BAM BOOM!
"SHORTY! What is going on? What's all that noise?"
Uhoh gotta run!

Love,

Shorty
