I'm a widow (November 95) and my only child (human)
went into the
army on the 18th of Nov 1997...it's been pretty weird
for me
he has been my BEST friend since his dad died....
So it's just me and
the goats now...on 6.5 acres in the middle of nowhere
AZ....I'm 44 yrs
old and until he left have NEVER spent a night alone
in a house...course
in the last 3 yrs I've done a lot of things I never
thought I would...things that Lynn always took care
of..
I came from the city..SF Bay Area...my husband and I
had a limo service there...I had gone to work for him
and before I knew it..not only had he become my best
friend but we fell in love. I lived a VERY
different life then...fancy clothes, perfect
hair, sculpture nails, makeup the whole bit...we
moved out here (to
Sedona..Sunnyvale was NO place to
raise a child!) and I changed some..no nails, no make
up most of the time
etc...but then we moved to
Rimrock...mind you my
husband was 23 yrs
older than I...(although you would have never guessed
it) we borrowed a motor home 24 ft..moved it onto the
property..no power,no phone, nothing...Coleman
lanterns and a generator
for the well pump.
I love the "redneck" life..have no problem with
it...much more than the jet set life I lived
before...I should have been raised on a farm..much
more fulfilling than city life ...
As I said...my goats ARE my family...now...we share
everything, eat together,
laugh together, love
together and sometimes even sleep together (just
the little ones *LOL*).
I do all my own chores..from buckin' hay and
unloading 80# bags of feed to building new pens,
fixen fences and broken water pipes..I do my own
butchering....I make my own soap, butter,
cheese, yogurt and doggie cookies from my goatmilk...
grow the veggies that I can up for winter ...I enjoy
every minute of it and my goats keep a smile in my
heart and in my soul.
My dream hasn't changed..only my dream partner has
gone away...
Glad you stopped by my name is Debbie, but all my
friends call me 'the goatlady'...
100% country with a little bit of redneck thrown in
for just for kicks. I hang my hat in a little town
in the Verde Valley..Rimrock AZ to be exact.
Since I was a kid and visited my Aunt Dorothy on a farm I wanted to be just like her...she did everything a farm girl could.. canned..made beautiful clothes..made her own sausage(the best I ever put in my mouth!) that went with her homemade sauerkraut..she impressed me more than she will ever know...We both had a dream of homesteading and raising our goats..and just living a simple life in
the country... but life didn't see it that way..what
started out to be a pain in his shoulder turned out
to lead to brain cancer.. less than a month from the
diagnosis he was gone... and HERE I AM out here WITH
ALL THESE GOATS....
luckily we'd gotten power just before he
died, and got a phone line brought in ... my in laws
saw to that and bought us a mobile home...*S*
..since then...it's been REAL! *LOL*...so I wasn't
always a redneck..it's something you can acquire
....like letting Tammy
(VitVit) have her
babies in the house because she's spoiled rotten...
and 'mom' promised her she wouldn't have to have her
babies in the "goatyard". Chasing her around
the living room with a sheet (to try to save the
carpet) was comical to say the least!
know the real
me *S*
