10/16/99 SPECIAL UPDATE!
We would like our visitors to know that we now
have a new site under construction.
This site will remain active until we have a new Shelter building and land. We ask
that you go to our new
site as it is shaping up nicely. ALL updates to the Online Kennel will now be done
exclusively at the new site!!!
We have been through a lot of changes and our site
reflects them. Our first website was very
high quality with many sections and features. This site went very austere when our
Shelter lost its use
of the County facility.
Our life-saving activities have not ceased since
them and we are still working hard to give them
a chance to live. In our new phase, we continue to seek out an appropriate site for
our physical shelter.
Meanwhile, a new domain for our website was generously donated by the folks at
New Media eXstream. Be sure to visit and bookmark it.
The NEW URL IS http//spca.nmxt.com
Welcome to our temporary website. We will
only be presenting an online kennel for you to view for the time being.. Please read
the following for an update on our status and then consider adopting a pet from our
current selection. FOR MORE INFORMATION EMAIL: Humane Society of Nelson County [Kennel One] [Kennel Two] [Kennel Three] STATUS UPDATE Since the reported problems that the Society has had with the local County concerning a physical site for the Shelter, we have a pressing need to obtain or build a new structure in order to continue our effort to bring "humane treatment" to animals BACK to Nelson County! We shall strive unceasingly to create an environment where recovered animals are given a chance to live longer than a short period of time before they are reunited with their owners or adopted out to a loving home. What was once a Shelter that struggled to keep animals healthy and ALIVE for as long as feasibly possible, given space and other considerations, has now become a pound that exists simply for the sake of storing animals for a short period of time before they are killed. Nelson County has even handed over this process to another county while they "rebuild" their pound. What is most telling about the decision to rebuild their facility is that it is still located in a garbage dump. Rather than placing the structure in a clean, visible, and easily accessible location so that the animals can have a better chance at being brought in, recovered, or adopted, the County Officials prefer to be located in the dump. Why? Because it makes it all the easier for them to dispose of the HUNDREDS of carcasses that they will generate by routinely killing animals (pets, friends, companions) without concern for each animals viability and meaning as domesticated pets. PLEASE DON'T TURN AWAY We would sincerely hope that anyone who has a love for animals will not turn away from this issue without concern. We know that any reasonable humanitarian understands that domesticated cats and dogs are a responsibility that we cannot ignore. We have collectively brought these animals to a condition where they deserve more understanding and compassion. Many of these animals have started life as pets. They have been raised in an environment where human beings where their FAMILY and FRIENDS. They have learned to respond, react and feel on a level that is sometimes amazing. How can we let them be sentenced to death without committing a crime. When an animal is healthy, friendly, loyal and so aware, it should be given a decent opportunity to be recovered by its owner or placed. With the above in mind, we sincerely hope that anyone with the resources to help our Humane Society in its quest to relocate, will do so. Valuable time is wasting and many loving pets who look to all of us for their well being are being slaughtered. We know that those who truly care will rally and come to the Shelter's aid. We believe that there are still many out there who deserve to be called COMPASSIONATE, HUMANITARIAN, and CARING. ABOUT THE PETS WE HAVE AVAILABLE -- PLEASE ADOPT! We are trying to help and place as many dogs and cats as possible. We went so far as to try to rescue animals from the County Pound before they were moved to another location in preparation for their new building. We have taken the animals we obtain into our own homes and care for them. We have also found temporary foster homes for many pets. While these solutions are not the best and limit our capacity to deal with the large number of animals that need our help, we are trying our best. Our website will only focus on finding homes for the animals we now have. The other focus is to solicit any help that others might offer. Thanks and be assured that we will be updating this site with new pets from time to time. Also, we will have a new site operating when our new physical site is a reality.
