The State Seal is pictured above along with the state flower (Magnolia) and the state bird (Brown Pelican) which gives Louisiana it's nickname, "The Pelican State." They are preceded by the state flag, proudly waving over all.As there are so many waterways, rivers, streams, bayous, all over the state, it also has the nickname "The Bayou State." It is also known as "The Creole State" for the Cajuns and multi-cultures who settled there.

"Louisiana, the Sportsman's Paradise," is noted for it's abundance of hunting, fishing, shrimping and "Joie de vive" (love of life). Family is all important, and family life is a priority. Laughter, good times, good food, and love of God, family and life make up the Louisiana personality.

The largest city is New Orleanswhich is home to the MARDI GRAS, SUPER DOME, SUGAR BOWL and the famous FRENCH QUARTER. The capital of Louisiana isBaton Rouge which is home to LOUISIANA STATE UNIVERSITY.

LSU's football team is the TIGERS, known as THE FIGHTING TIGERS, whose stadium has become affectionately nicknamed "Death Valley." Intimidating? Perhaps. Exciting? Always!!!! The basketball dome is also affectionately nicknamed. It is called "The Deaf Dome." LSU has been the home of some of the best, the more famous and some infamous sports heroes. Considering Louisiana's penchant for 'dramatic' politics, can sports do any less?

If you've never been to one, a fais-do-do is the ultimate party! There is Cajun music, Zydeco, dancing, laughing, food, and plenty of good times, probably even some card games such as Bourre'. These card games are serious stuff and can go on until daylight!

The food is the greatest, particularly the seafood, i.e. shrimp, crawfish, catfish and sometimes if you're lucky, alligator and turtle. There are lots of boucheries (roast suckling pig), etouffees, sauce piquants, gumbos and jambalaya and everything is spicy, just like the life there. Mmmmmmmm, love dem crawfish, cher! C'est magnifique!

Father, guide us safely through each day,
Watch carefully o'er us on our way.
If you should see us start to slide,
Stay thee near us, by our side.
Amen
