  • COMPTON, Elizabeth >>VA

My 7G Grandmother was named Elizabeth Compton born ca.1700 in Virginia. She was said to be kidnapped by indian tribe from her family who was living in inland Virginia at the time. While being held by tribe she gave birth to a daugther who she named Betty Compton, my 6G Grandmother. Elizabeth escaped the tribe with her infant daugther and returned to civilization. Betty Compton later married Esau Ritchie from Dinwiddie Co, VA. They had a son Isaac Ritchie, my 5G grandfather, born in 1757. This "story" is consistent from several different relations I have found in my search of my family tree. I can find nothing to confirm this in written records. • COMPTON, Thomas >> NC

Seeking information on the accuracy of a letter I have that was written by a cousin to of my great grandfather, WILSON YOUNG COMPTON. This cousin, THOMAS SMITH COMPTON, states that his grandfather, THOMAS COMPTON, was born 1750-1760 in North Carolina , was a revolutionary soldier under General Green. He married Margaret Greer (Irish). They reared four sons and one daughter: Cyrus Compton (a lawyer) remained in NC. John Lee Compton (a farmer) remained in NC. Samuel Compton (migrated to Georgia) - my gggrandfather - his son, Wilson Y. Compton is my ggrandfather Thomas M. Compton, born in 1816 in North Carolina - (the letter writer's father) Margaret Compton - married Henderson Henslee and moved to SW Missouri. The letter also states there is a family tradition that three Compton brothers of Welsh-English ancestory came to America at an early date. Two of the brothers probably settled in Maryland, and the third brother settled in North Carolina. It is through this third brother that our family is descended. Does anyone have any connection to or knowledge of this Thomas Compton from NC, or to the three Compton brothers??? Any information is greatly appreciated! >>> unsigned
