The Nebelung is the only longhair breed which comes solely in blue. It is descended from the Russian longhair of the nineteenth century. Its modern renaissance was started by Nebelheim cattery ("Home of the Mist" in German) in 1986 with the foundation pair, Siegfried and Brunhilde, as its breeding sire and dam.
After Nebelheim's founding, new breeding stock, both foundation Nebelung and Russian Blue (the only legal Nebelung outcross), was brought in for the continuation and health of the breed. Lavender Blue, Psykitt's, Romani, CK, Paradigm, HanoHano and lately Winter Day of Moscow, Russia, have made their unique contribution to the variety of the breed and to the background of Nebelheim cats. Winter Day Georgin of Nebelheim is the first Nebelung TICA champion. The continuing emphasis of Nebelheim is the enhancement and perpetuation of the Siegfried/Brunhilde line.
