little bit about us ...
Riding horses
is a great philosophy.
"Equestrian
art, perhaps more than any other, is closely related to the wisdom of life
... the horse teaches us self-control, constancy, and the ability to understand
what does on in the mind and the feelings of another creatures, qualities
that are important throughout our lives. "
"The object
of the classical art of riding is to train a horse not only to be brilliant
in the movements and exercises of the High School, but also to be quiet,
supple, and obediant, and by his smooth movements to make riding a true
pleasure. THis clearly shows that in every kind of riding we strive for
the same objective. Whether it is a dressage horse, a jumper, a hunter
or charger, he should always be quiet, supple and obedient. These qualities
are the basis for every kind of riding."
(The Complete
Training of Horse & Rider, Alolis Podhajsky, Former Director of the
Spanish Riding School, Vienna).
Roz Tippett
(NCAS Level 2 Specialist Dressage), the owner of Centura Riding School
has endeavoured to instil the above principals in all her students, whether
they be absolute beginner riders or student competing at the highest levels
of dressage. Being the first West Australian to school a horse to Grand
Prix level took enormous dedication, knowledge and experience. These qualities
alone make Centura Riding School stand out amongst it's contemporaries.
Her first Grand Prix horse, the late great "Grand Espoir"
has a long list of achievements. From coming 2nd in the Australian Novice
Championship in Adelaide, 1986, through to winning the Perth Grand Prix
in 1993 and 1994, Grand Espoir became one of the most loved and
respected horses in Australia. His tragic death following a colic operation
in 1995 left a huge gap in W.A.'s dressage arenas. Roz is currently training
and competing the enormously talented Centure Finistere. Already
his successes in the arena are awesome and it will not be long before he
is ready to compete at the Grand Prix level.
It is only
fitting that the owner of Centura Riding School is herself one of
Australia's most respected and leading riders. Amongst her many achievements
to horseriding in this state, she was 1997 State Young Rider Squad coach,
is a current member of the Dressage Squad, has organised Squad workshops
and demonstrations for fun-raising, has instigated and organised the W.A.
Indoor Dressage Championships. She is also a fully qualified NCAS Level
1 General Coach, an NCAS Level 11 Dressage Speciallist Coach and an NCAS
Examiner.
Roz Tippett
and her staff are fully committed to instructing riders of all ages, all
levels and abilities in the classical and timeless art of riding.
What sets Centura
Riding School apart? A variety of fact which blend together to creat
a holistic approach to horse and rider. From the specialist farrier who
attends both the school's horses and the privately agisted horses, the
dentist who flies in every 10-15 weeks from the Eastern states, together
with the exceptional care and knowledge of performance horses provided
by the team of acupuncturists and chiropractors at the Bullsbrook Vet Clinic,
all combine to make our horses edicated, obedient and supple. Horses such
as these, coupled with the skill, knowledge and techniques of our riding
instruction allow the rider to progress to either a competitive standard
of riding or alternatively, for the non-competitor, to enable and equip
them to be happy, safe , confident and competent in their pleasure riding.
The staff at
Centura Riding School are themselves as dedicated to teaching as
Roz.
Sarah Gillette,
a qualified Level "O" instructor, is a great favourites amongst young and
not so young riders. She has a wealth of experience with the Riding for
the Disabled which has equipped her to deal with the most timid of students.
Sarah has an exceptional ability in focusing on the student-rider's goals
and helping them to achieve those goals. A former track rider, Sarah is
an encyclopedia of knowledge and is experienced in both eventing and showjumping.
Terrina
Fairbrother, our guest instructor , teaches when her busy show schedule
alloways. She is a highly competitive dressage rider who, like Sarah, is
exceptional with the older, timid and beginner rider right up to the more
experienced rider.
Centura
Riding School adheres strictly to the principals of riding on a lunge,
which is necessary when re-educating rider position. Also, beginners are
introduced to horseriding on the lunge until they are confident and
secure. ALl group lessons at our school are graded by standard of riding
as opposed to age of the rider. Centura further offers Certificate
courses such as Horse Management and Horsemastership.
Owner/riders
are always welcome to reside and train with Roz and to this end, tailor
made training programmes to suit are a specialty. Residential school holiday
camps and competition rider camps are an added bonus at Centura.
Our monthly
newsletter guarantees to keep all clients in touch with what's happening
around the school and the competition circuit. Our fun gymkhana days are
always a hit with young riders and our mock competition days, picnics,
and twilight bushriders (in the summer months) are a great way of
relaxing in a stress-free atmostphere in today's stress-ridden environment.
Above
all else, Centura Riding School rides itself in providing a safe and friendly
environment in which to enjoy the benefits of horseback ridingin, or, to
achieve long held goals of competing at the highest level.
