But this smart bird like us can chatter,

First you draw a feathered crest
The head-dress of an Indian chief;
Then, like a button on a vest,
The eye stands out in sharp relief.
Next you fill in the beak of horn
For cracking grain with one strong bite;
And Cockie's feathers may be worn
In any shade from black to white.

Or else our bird will start to talk;
