I DIDN'T KNOW SHE WAS A GREAT DANE.....

My daughter brought her home, along with her "owner". She was only four months old..a real cute "puppy". Within a month my daughters friend had moved into a different neighborhood. I would see the "pup" in the back yard when I would take my daughter to visit. No shade, no water, no food, and for company, a vicious Doberman. Finally, I could stand it no more. I knocked on the door of the shabby wooden house, and informed the young man..."I'm taking your dog". He actually seemed quite relieved! We renamed her Athena. She was covered with fleas and ticks, and malnourished....not near as bad as Daboyz...but bad enough.

Athena thrived with the love that was shown to her.. She ate my best high heels. (only one per pair, though). She chewed the legs of the furniture, she unstuffed all my pillows...but I loved her.

Then...I met a man. Athena was very protective of me...hated men. This particular man charmed her from the beginning...Love me, Love my dog! We married, and on our wedding night Cork spent the evening playing with Athena. Made me wonder at the time...did he marry me...or my dog!

Our first order of business was to move to a tiny fishing town on the Coast of Louisiana. Athena loved the beach! She loved everything about it. Within 6 months, though, we were on our way to upstate New York. From sand to snow in three days! She was a trouper though. Her only problem was finding a place to pee in all that deep cold white stuff.

As luck would have it, we were transferred back to the same little town...on the BEACH!

Athena was with us another year...another year on the beach she loved. She died February of 1997. The hole she left in our lives will never be filled...but.. we return her love everyday in our boyz.
