If you died today, where would you go?

Let me ask you something. If you died today where would you go? If you are uncertain please read on.

If you are seeking the salvation of your soul remember that it can only be found in Jesus. Not others, not in possessions or works or anything.

"Salvation is found in no one else, for there is no other name under heaven given to men by which we must be saved." - Acts 4:12

"I am the way, and the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me." - John 14:6

We know this also in that no other faith has fulfilled it's promises and been proved to be correct constantly.

In the beginning God created us to glorify him.

"For we are God's workmanship, created in Christ Jesus to do good works, which God prepared in advance for us to do." - Ephesians 2:10

But in the Garden of Eden man sinned and we lost God's purpose for us. The punishment of our sin is death and eternal torment in hell. But God still wants us to know him and come to his kingdom. But the punishment for sin had to be satisfied. So God sent his only son, Jesus, to take on all of mankind's sin and die in our place. After dying and conquering death Jesus rose again (Matthew 28, Mark 16, Luke 24, John 20).

"For God so loved the world that he gave his only begotten son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have everlasting life." - John 3:16

"For the wages of sin is death, but the free gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord." - Romans 6:23

"For all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God, and are justified freely by his grace through the redemption that came by Christ Jesus." - Romans 3:23,24

"But God demonstrates his own love for us in this: While we were still sinners, Christ died for us." - Romans 5:8

So, to be saved we must acknowledge our sins and accept Jesus' sacrifice. We must also realize that we cannot save ourselves. No amount of good works can save our soul.

"For it is by grace you have been saved, through faith - and this is not from yourselves, it is the gift of God - not by works, so that no man can boast." - Ephesians 2:8,9

"If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just and will forgive us our sins and purify us from all unrighteousness." - 1 John 1:9

"That if you confess with your mouth, 'Jesus is Lord,' and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved. For it is with your heart that you believe and are justified, and it is with your mouth that you are saved." - Romans 10:9,10

As it says in the verses above, to be saved you must first believe in Jesus and the resurrection of Christ for your sins, then repent of your sins, confessing the name of Jesus. Pray, talk to God and ask Him for forgiveness. Ask Him to save you and come into your live.

If you have done this with all your heart you are saved! Praise the Lord!

Another important thing is to be baptized. Baptism is not required for salvation but it is an important part of obeying Jesus. All Christians should be baptized simply because Jesus said to:

Jesus replied, "Let it be so now; it is proper for us to do this to fulfill all righteousness." - Mark 3:15

We know it is not required to be saved because the Bible says that it is not by works that we become justified to God but by accepting His grace.

"For it is by grace you have been saved, through faith - and this is not from yourselves, it is the gift of God - not by works, so that no one can boast." - Ephesians 2:8,9

If we had to be baptized to be saved it would be as if God said, "I will not accept you unless you immerse yourself in water." There is nothing magical about the water, it cannot wash away sins. We cannot gain salvation by works. If that were true Jesus would not have had to die for our sins, man would be able to save himself.

"He saved us, not because of righteous things we had done, but because of his mercy. He saved us through the washing of rebirth and renewal by the Holy Spirit." Titus 3:5-6

It is the baptism of the Holy Spirit that saves us.

Baptism is a beautiful illustration of dying with Jesus and then being raised with him into a new life. Baptism also symbolises the work of the Holy Spirit to cleanse us from sin. Jesus made sure to be baptized as an example to all of us.

"Then Jesus came from Galilee to the Jordan to be baptized by John. But John tried to deter him, saying, 'I need to be baptized by you, and do you come to me?' Jesus replied, 'Let it be so now; it is proper for us to do this to fulfill all righteousness.' Then John consented." - Mark 3

"Or do you not know that as many of us as were baptised into Christ Jesus were baptized into his death? Therefore we were buried with Him through baptism into death, that just as Christ was raised from the dead by the glory of the Father, even so we also should walk in newness of life." - Romans 6:3,4

What do you do now?

Read the Bible and pray everyday so that you can better understand God and become closer to him. Acts 2:38 tells us that when we are saved we receive the gift of the Holy Spirit. The Holy Spirit helps us to understand the scriptures and thus, the ways of God.

By the way, you may have heard that when you receive the Holy Spirit you speak in tongues. That is not always the case. In 1 Corinthians 12 Paul talks about the spiritual gifts, including speaking in tongues. He shows it as one of the gifts of the church that certain members possess. And different members have different gifts (see verses 14-20). In verse 30 he askes, "Do all speak in tongues?" No, as it says in verse 19, "If they were all one part, where would the body be?"

Also join a good Bible-believing church so that you can be encouraged and helped by a body of believers. And also to play as your part of the body (refer again to 1 Cor. 12).

Now that you are a Christian be sure to witness to others in whatever you do. Share God's love and Jesus' sacrifice wherever you go. You now have a friend that will never leave you or forsake you and he will give you the strength to serve him wherever you go!

From this point forward you enter into the ministry!!
