Ann Mae Paul Taylor Phillips

wife of Marion Lowry Phillips

Anna Mae Paul Taylor was the fourth of eleven children born to David Tildon Taylor and his wife Josephine Francis Anderson Taylor in Ellington, Kentucky. (Dave Taylor was the son of Granville Taylor/Rachel Ellen Cloyd and Josephine was the daughter of Bud and Emily Anderson.

Being a farm family necessitated having a large family in those days and the Taylor land was well situated at the base of Pleasant Hill and in the rich bottom lands of the Cumberland River. Growing up next to the river allowed for such frivolities as swimming, fishing, catching lightning bugs, and chasing dreams along with the good, but extremely hard work of day-to-day living. Anna grew up prepared for her defined role of homemaker and mother. As each new baby came along in the family the oldest daughter at home had the responsibility of rearing the newest child, thus freeing mother, Francis, for her other duties. Anna learned to keep a meticulous house, to keep a well stocked larder, to can and to cure, as well as to help in the vegetable garden and cook. She had a reputation, like all the Taylor women of being an excellent cook.

When she met and married Larry Phillips after their introduction by Nannie Susan Goff, she was prepared for the life of farmer's wife. Unfortunately, Larry went to work "until time for Spring planting" at a factory in New Castle, Indiana and lost his left arm in an accident at the plant. He was offered a job for life at the factory, which he accepted, and Anna became a metropolitan wife and mother. She took right to it, though missing her home in Kentucky and only seeing it on short visits, until Larry's retirement.

This is Anna Mae Paul Taylor Phillips' family history from its arrival in America.
