information. As with most information on these pages and elsewhere, please be sure to verify your own sources.
Johann Jacob HUTH arrived from Germany Feb 9, 1743 at the age of 25 aboard the ship,
Loyal Judith. He was born in Germany in 1718 and died in Surry County,
North Carolina, (now Yadkin) in 1801. He was 5 ft. 5 in. in height. He fought
in the American Revolution from Jan 3, 1777 for three years in the 10th VA Reg.
(At various times it was called Captain James Franklin's and Capt. Clough Shelton's
Company). He was under the command of Col. Edward Stevens. He entered the
hospital in New York Nov 7, 1777, but was back on duty Jan 1778 with Maj. Samuel
Hawes commanding the regiment. He was at Valley Forge from March thru June 3, 1778,
was stationed at Brunswick, White Plains, and Middle Brook during 1778. He
was in the 6th VA Reg. with Gen. Scott,reenlisted Jan 3, 1780 and was there
for the duration of the war. He was mustered out on/about May 19, 1783. He
received land grants for 750 acres from the State of North Carolina for his
service and located on Harmon Creek in what is now Yadkin County.

In various
records since, the name HUTH was changed to HUTZ, HOTTS,HUTTS, and HOOTS.
He married Margrett ?, and left to his children, Jacob, Jr.; John; Peter; Mary; Anthony'
Henry; Margrett; and Daniel, his granted and acquired lands in his Will signed
in 1801.
Jacob Jr. married Mary Polly CARVER, Jan 11, 1791, died ca 1796: two children
David and Jacob III.
John Hoots married 1.?, 2. Francis TAYLOR, Mar 2, 1795 and moved to Wilkes County,
NC before 1801.
Phillip Hoots married Mary MORGAN, Mar 10, 1792 and died before 1801. Their
child Jacob Hoots was born in Wilkes County, NC.
Peter Hoots married Viney ?, sold the 100 acres he inherited from Jacob Sr. to
Jacob Garner in 1804 and moved to Cumberland County,Kentucky then later to Morgan County IL. Their
children were David, Peter, John, Betsey, and Solomon.
Mary Hoots married Jacob GARNER. Their children were Archibald, Morgan, Mary,
and Nancy Garner.
Anthony Hoots married Susanna CRISSON(Creason?). Their children were James,
Cain, and Anthony Jr., who lived in Cass County, MO and Washington County, IL.
**Henry Hoots was born ca 1778 in Surry County, NC and died in Overton County,
TN about 1865. He married Ann GROCE in Surry County, NC Jun 13, 1803, Simon Groce (her grandfather) was bondsman. Simon Groce's family came from Germany to Lancaster County, PA and then on to the Yadkin Valley where he had a land grand in Surry Co. NC filed in 1779, likely a Rev. War Grant. Henry Hoots served in the War of 1812 along with his brother in law. (Henry Hoots recorded a land grant in Cumberland County, KY on October 10, 1810.)They were in the Surry County, NC 2nd Regiment. The child of Henry and Ann Groce Hoots was * Ransom Hoots.
Margret may have married Isaac STOVER in Wilkes County.
Daniel Hoots married Elizabeth SHORE.

Ruth b. 1839 that married Luke DAVIDSON (brother of Hannah)and had Sallie (Mrs. Jim Miller), Delia (Mrs. Josh Tuggle), Edgar (Lizzie Duthing);
John b. 1841 that married Pollie WATSON, daughter of Miles Watson and Viola GLIDEWELLand had Sarah Cissie (Mrs. Miles Watson), Armilda (Mrs. Pleasant Garner), Columbus F. (Dora Jones), William G. (Beckett Hickey), Barbara B. (Mrs. David Glidewell), George H. (Ermine Tompkins), Manda, Charles T. (Myrta Sell), Mitchell, Wessie B. (Elizabeth Ferguson), Herbert G. (Abbie Sell), Ransom (Millie), Rosa (Mrs. Milton Spears), Lillie F. (Mrs. Virgie Flowers, Mrs. Frank Hickey), Eula (Mrs. Jim Ferguson), Cora Agnes (Mrs. John Mullins);
George that was killed in 1898 by Jim Vaughn;Catherine that married Jim Barger;
Frances Maria b. 1847 d. 2-6-1928 m. Thomas Asbury Sullins and went to Texas and had Louella (Mrs. Steve Cowan), William R. (Alice Alma Edwin), Thomas H. (Myrtle Dickerson), Zula Savannah (Mrs. Hershel Harris);
Loucinda b. 1849 that married Calvin KILLMAN and J. Calvin ROE; and
Louise b. 1851 that married J. William VAUGHN.

*William Hoots married first Elizabeth GUTHRIE, who died. He then married
Hannah DAVIDSON Williams, widow of John Williams, who had two children: Nan (Nancy), who
married Charlie BAKER and Mattie (Martha) who married Leo SNOW and moved to MO. Together,
William and Hannah Davidson Williams Hoots had: Florence, who never married;
Signora Kate who married Thomas A. ROWE; Lola Burr who married John CHOWNING;
*Lulu Ethel who married William Thomas PHILLIPS;
Hays; and red-headed twins that died shortly after birth and were buried "in
the backyard".

(Great grandmother used to tell an amusing story about the family moving
and bringing the twins with them. This didn't happen just once, but several
times, until when they moved the last time, the twins graves were forgotten
until it was too late to move them again--winter weather or something.
Wherever that place was, is where they lie. She often wondered about the
new tenants faces when they went to dig their flower garden and found the
boys.)
