MERRYMAN family--John Merryman, the immediate ancestor of the Merrymans of Balto.
Co., came to Va. prior to 1650. Record shows land patented (150 acres) May 10th,
1638, in Charles City Co. (a corporation laid out 3,000 acres below Shady Hudal
Island), adjoining Weyanoke (about 30 miles S. E. of Richmond on the James River),
and also adjoining the land of Perce Lennon. Record of arrival of his wife, Audrey,
1649. He d--in Va. before 1680. Issue--Charles (2) second son of John (1) of
Currotoman River, Lancaster Co., Va., first appeared in Balto. Co. land records
Mar. 30, 1682, when he purchased from Thomas and Hannah (Ball) Everest of Patapsco
River in Balto. Co., 300 acres of land called "East Humphreys" lying
in Balto. Co. north of Patapsco River. In t he tax list of 1692 and 1694, he
was recorded as resident of north side of Patapsco River on the south side of
Back River. Beside the "East Humphreys" tract (surveyed for Mary Humphreys
in 1679) he held other lands on the north side of the Patapsco--Merr yman's Lot,
210 acres--in 1688, Merryman's Addition, 120 acres in 1694; Merryman's Beginning,
246 acres in 1793; and Meryman's Pasture, 200 acres in 1704. He was identified
with St. Paul's Parish in Balto. Co. and was Capt. of Militia in 1696. He was
men tioned in an address to His Majesty as one of his loyal Colonial subjects.
He d--Dec. 22, 1725. Issue--John (3) son of Charles (2) and Mary Humphreys was
deeded Merryman's Addition, 120 acres, and a moiety of Merryman's Pasture, 100
acres. In addition to this, he purchased in 1724 from Thomas Broad, 102 acres,
called Merryman's Purchase, being a part of Broad's Improvement lying near Herring
Run in Balto. Co. He also owned 150 acres of land called Merryman's Delight,
situated near the site of the Warren factory in Balto. Co. John Merryman lived
on the estate known as "Clover Hill," the entrance to which was on
Merryman's Lane, now University Parkway. He m--Dec. 30, 1702, Martha Bowen, dau--of
Jonas Bowen and Martha his wife of Patapsco in Balto. Co. He d--in 1749. Issue--John
(4), oldest son of Charles (3), John (3), Charles (2), John (1) of Hereford,
Balto. Co. B--1703, d--Aug. 15, 1777. He lived upon the estate purchased by his
father from Thomas Broad, later his own, beside other property which he He lived

When Annice Harden Shaw met David Miller, David and his brother had a German
Reform Lutheran Church in Hagertown, Indiana, located in Joseph County. David
and his brother were both preachers in this church. When David and Annice moved
to Boone County, IA, David continued his ministry.
The following was printed in the Boone Republican - August 11, 1886 - page 5,
Col 2:
Died August 7, 1886, David Miller age 79, at his home at Mineral Ridge, Boone
County, Iowa. Father Miller was born in the state of Virginia - April 11, 1809
(1807 on tombstone). He came to Iowa in 1854 and settled in Mineral Ridge where
he lived until his death. He was a faithful minister of the German Reformed
Lutheran Church for thirty years in the state of Indiana. Many united with the
church under his preaching, some living to this day. He was a man of strong
physical and mental powers, a good theologian, and a good citizen. He leaves
a wife and three children: William of Lee county, Mrs. Buechler of Ridgeport
and Armstead Miller on this homestead. His funeral was at the residence Monday
and was attended by an unusually large gathering. The Rev. Louis Doran conducted
the services.He was married to Annice Harden about
1854.(5) Children were:
