Here is the following deed of Isaac and Jane (Decker) Cook who lived in Grayson Co, KY. I believe he is the son of John Cook b. 1794 NC. I have no proof at this time though. Can anyone tell me who the John is that has property next to Issac and Jane. If anyone would like a copy of this deed please let me know.

THIS DEED, between Isaac M Cook and Jane Cook his wife of the county of Grayson and state of Kentucky of the first part, and William L Decker of the county and state aforesaid the second part, Witnesseth: that the said party of the first part, in consideration of $200.00. Two hundred dollars, in hand paid the receipt of which is hereby acknowledged, do hereby sell, grant and convey to the party of the second part, his heirs and assigns, the following described property viz: All the undivided right title interest and claim which the parties of the first part have in and to a certain tract or parcel of land situated & lying in Grayson County KY on the waters of Bear creek & bounded as follows to-wit: Beginning at an elm and beech on the west bank of Bear Creek opposite the lower corner of John Cook thence North 60 East 140 poles to a white oak and two hickories on a drain, on the original line, thence with said line N 51 W 134 poles to the original corner a white near a small lick, then with another of the original lines N 80 W 150 poles to a beech and white oak on the east bank of Bear creek opposite Cooks upper corner then down the said creek with its meanders to the beginning, supposed to contain 150 acres more or less, & being same land conveyed to Allen Decker by Wm R Decker by deed date 4 day of October 1869 and the interest hereby conveyed is that which descended to said Jane Decker as one of the heirs of Allen Decker deceased and is one undivided seventh pa t of said One hundred and fifty acres To have and to hold the same, with all the appurteances thereon to the second party, his heirs and assigns forever, with covenant of General Warranty. In Testimony whereof witness our signatures this 37^th day of Feby 1874.

All the children were born between 1881 and 1899. They were in the Grayson County, KY sometime in the early 1890's. This Steve is not in the 1870's Grayson County Census. I am not exactly sure about this suit. From what I can gather is that this W.S. Vanmeter was trying to get the land from Daniel J. Cook. Or was Daniel J. Cook selling his land to W.S. Vanmeter? Or did Daniel J. Cook lose his land? Could someone possibly read this and tell me?

Where as in the Action of W.S. Vanmeter & Brothers Plantiffs Against Daniel J. Cook Defendant then pending in the Grayson Circuit Court an order was entered at the October Term 1874 directing Edwin Thomas as the Master Commissioner of said Court to expose for sale at public action the property herein after described and where as said property was sold in accordance with said Order on the 22^nd day of January 1877 And for the sum of One hundred Dollars To W.S. Vanmeter & Brother and Where as the report of said sale was Confirmed by said Court at the April Term 1877 and at the April 1877 and order was entered directing the Commissioner to execute a deed of Conveyance of said property to said W.S. Vanmeter & Charles J Vanmeter partners doing business under the firm of W.S. Vanmeter & Bro. Now there fore this Indenture made and entered into this 28^th day of April 1877 between Daniel J. Cook by Edwin Thomas Master Commissioner of the said Court of the first part and W.S. Vanmeter & Charles J. Vanmeter partners trading and doing business under the firm name of W.S. Vanmeter & Bro of the second part. Witnesseth that for and in consideration for the promises and for the further consideration of the full payment of the purchase price aforesaid the receipt whereof is hereby acknowledged the parties of the first part by Edwin Thomas as commissioner aforesaid have sold and by this writing do Convey to said party of the second part and their heirs and assigns forever the following described property to wit: A certain tract on parcel of land lying in Grayson County, KY on the water of Bear Creek and bring same land Conveyed by Jno. B. Molohom to Daniel J. Cook by deed of record in Grayson County Clerks Office in Deed Book No 1 Page 40 and bounded as follows Beginning at a large White Oak and Sassafras thence S 50 W 120 pole to two black Oaks thence N 40.W 140 poles to black oak & chestnut Thence N 50 E 120 poles to a white oak dogwood & white oak thence S 40 E 140 poles to the Beginning . Containing 100 acres more or less To have and to hold the said property together with the rights and privileges and appintenances there unto belonging unto the party of the second part and thein heirs and assigns forever. The parties of the first part by said Edwin Thomas as Master Commissioner her by covenant with the party of the second part that they will warrant and defend the title of the land and premises here by conveyed against the claims of Daniel J. Cook. In Testimony where of said Edwin Thomas as Commissioner aforesaid has here unto subscribed his name this 28^th day of Apr 1877.

Vanmeter was on the 28^th day of April 1887 presented to open Court by said Edwin Thomas Commissioner and was by him duly acknowledged to be his act and deed And the said Deed having been examined by the Court was approved and confirmed and so endorsed by the Judge and ordered to be transmitted duly certified to the Clerk of Grayson County Court for record which is done according by Witness my signature this 28^th day of April 1877 attest.

I, John B. Rogers Clerk of the County Court for the county of and State aforesaid Certify that the record of the foregoing Com. Deed having been destroyed by fire in the burning of the Court House and its records in Leitchfield, Ky. On the night of the 16^th of June 1896 that the said Original Comm Deed was on the 10^th day of August 1896 lodged for record where upon the same together with the certificates thereon and this certificate have been duly recorded in my office. Could someone possibly tell me if they are in Butler County, KY in the 1860 Census? They seem to have disappeared from that census. Any help appreciated!

James Cook was born in England and Eliaz Ann Jackson was born in North Carolina there daughter was Margaret Ann Cook, and she married James A. Vertrees. James Cook and Eliaz had other Children in Grayson County Kentucky they were J.W. age 19 and farm labor (who married Ellen Bruner), H.C. daughter M.A( this is Margaret Ann). J.W age 8 Elonzo age 7 (they called him Uncle Lon) and G.R. age 1. This the 1870 Census records, for Grayson County Kentucky.
