Sweden, bound for the New World. A severe storm forced them to land for
repairs at Texel in the Netherlands. One of these ships was the "Kalmer
Nyckel", which finally set sail again on Dec 31, 1637. On board were six
passengers, including Gerrit Hendrickson. Although a shoemaker by trade,
Kiliane Van Rensal had hired him as a field hand to cultivate tobacco on
his land in Rensselarwick, near Albany. He resided between April, 1638

"This board was advisory to Gov. Kieft, and represented the inhabitants
of Manhattan, Brooklyn and Pavonia (in the consideration of the general
treatment of the Indiams), and were elected to suggest means to punish
the Indians for a murder they had committed" on August 29, 1641. He married

He held a the position on the 12-man council assembled by Director Willem Kieft to "advise" him on Indian affairs. In the following year Kieft disbanded the council because it disagreed with his military ambitions. Abraham had such a falling out with the Director that he was threatened with banishment if he continued to insult the Company's officers. They bought a lot from brother-in-law Van Tienhoven at Smits Vly, near Pearl Street and Maiden Lane, and built a house there in 1649. When the English fleet showed up on the Hudson River, Abraham was one of the signers of the petition requesting that Peter Stuyvesant surrender. He died circa 1690 at Albany, NY.
