Genealogy Files Disclaimer

I started this home page as an extension of a hobby. I wanted to make others aware of my interests, and I wanted to share Internet links which I found useful. Like most hobbies, it has grown. I have included my genealogy files for your interest and information. I have not included anything which I know to be false, but . . . I have not verified all of the information contained in these files. In fact, given the sheer amount of information I have now, it would be almost impossible to ever verify everything. I have attempted to refrain from making assumptions. The ancestry of Thomas CHASE is shaky. It has not been proven that he is descended from the CHASE family of England that is included in my files. The mother of William WEEKS has not been proven. It seems to have been either Mercy ROBINSON or Mary HATCH. I have included Mercy ROBINSON in my files as the most likely mother of the WEEKS children, but it has not been proven.
It is my hope that the information in these files will serve as clues to those who may want to do more research. There is increasing debate among serious genealogists about the risk of those of us offering family files on the Internet. Their concerns involve the perpetuation of errors throughout the genealogical community through the Internet.
My opinion is that we should all share what we know. As Internet genealogy "matures" and grows, we can also share what information we have found to be erroneous. Doesn't it make sense that twenty people researching a record are more likely to find the truth than just one? Hopefully we will all get closer and closer to the "truth". So to those who frown on the open sharing of genealogical information, I say that you are welcome NOT to use my information. To the rest of us who realize that this is a hobby, and that any record might contain errors, even censuses and family Bible's, I say help yourself to everything that I have posted, and enjoy! If you find later that there is a mistake in my information, I would be grateful if you would let me know about it so that I can update it.
Thanks for listening to my soapbox.
I always welcome comments and corrections. For more information on the persons listed above, see surnames.
Oh yeah, if anyone can tell me how to separate my one, big family file into seperate GEDCOM's for each branch, I would be eternally grateful and I will create a shrine page just to pay homage to you.
