I also have a daughter, Holly Elizabeth, who has Hurler's. She was dx when she was 7 mos and at 21 mos she had a BMT. Her brother, age 6, was her donor. On May 17, 2000 we will be post-BMT 5 years!! Holly is doing great and it is hard to believe all we've been through. Jenna is a doll and it is amazing how many of her pictures, especially in the hospital, look so much like Holly. I have not been in contact with anyone who has been through what we've been through and decided it was time to find others who k ow what it is like. I just read your entire web page, and I wanted to tell you that although I was not aware of Jenna from the beginning to have her in my prayers, I will be praying for her from now on. Dear Jenna, My name is Brian Lewis and I also have a daughter that was born with this rare affiction. I understand how hard it is to understand this illness and the strengh that it takes to fight it. My daughter was only 6mos old when diagnosed with Hurlers and a few days from a year when transplanted. Jacquelyn is my daughters name and she has made wonderful progress. We found the diese the same way as you did, Jacque was born with a PDA in the heart The doctors told us that it would clear itself but it never did so she had surgery. Her heart didn't get any better so we went to see a gentetsist and she was diagnosed with hurlers. If there is anything in the world that I could have done to avoid this would have but to no avail. I have enjoyed your web site. It is quite lovely. I found myself here for two reasons. The first is that I am a early childhood special eduacation teacher and I have a little girl with Hurler syndrome in my classroom. She has had a transplant and is d ing amazingly well. I have visited your website several times since September when my great niece was diagnosed with I-Cell disease. This disease is similar to Hurlers. My niece Britton had an umbilicle cord blood stem cell transplant the day before Thanksgiving. Please p ss the word that this procedure is a viable option for this and other metabolic diseases. You do not need an exact donor match like you do with BMT. I am told the usual wait is approximately 2 weeks for a match. My niece is doing wonderful. She had h r procedure done at Duke University in Durham, NC. They are doing great work up there especially with Hurlers children. Pass the word!

This is the worst thing I ever have been thru or could have ever imagined! He is such a wonderfu ,true,kind person and a wonderful Christian as well. The ONLY thing that makes this the slightest bit bearable is that I know he lives on in Paradise and is waiting for me there. You just never expect this to happen when you are 36. I remember how spring f 1998 we prayed for your Jenna and cried when she was placed on the vent. We didn't know what was waiting for us just around the corner. Sherri, thanx for the e-mail!!!!!! will send you one when I learn how to do it. We have Bobby's e-mail hooked up at home for the past 2 months so he can work at home while recovering from surgery and going through chemo. Last Friday was the last chemo and it was rough!! Went to the e.r. twice for fluids and anti-nausea drugs;but you can do anything as long as its not forever. Now he will do radiation but no side effects expected from that. Please continue to pray for us. This just really cut me off at the nees. Sorry to hear Jenna has to have surgery again but hopefully this bypassing her mouth will help her gain the weight she needs;(maybe we should do that for Bobby,he's done to 130lbs!)We will pray for her and you and Keith.I commend you on your strengt when these things drag on and on!! Again we appreciate your email so much and will continue to check on Jenna through your updates.

Dear Sherri...I am just now having a chance to check your updates. Things seem to be improving and we continue to pray for Jenna. I could use your prayers myself. My husband Bobby had surgery 8/12 for something blocking air to his left lung and it turned ut to be a malignant tumor. They removed his left lung;all his scans show he is clean but he is having chemo(last treament on 10/2) and then 6 weeks of radiation. Please pray for us as we have a very long battle ahead. I have seen the power of prayer many times but so clearly through this web page as you have updated us all on Jenna. God is so good and we trust in Him.
