n these troubled times, many people are asking, "What can be done to meet the modernistic trends of the church today?" Various and sundry answers are offered. But God’s answer is to be found in the Bible:"Come ye out from among them and be ye separate, saith the Lord, and touch not the unclean thing: and I will receive you, and will be a Father unto you, and ye shall be my sons and daughters, saith the Lord God Almighty."
(2 Corinthians 6:17, 18)
THE ISSUE IS DRAWN
Every thinking Christian is aware that two different and irreconcilable "Gospels" are being preached to our churches today, both claiming to be Christian. That the liberals themselves recognize this difference is revealed in the following quotation from The Christian Century entitled, "Fundamentalism and Modernism-- Two Religions."
"Christianity, according to Fundamentalism is one religion, Christianity according to Modernism is another religion. Which is the true religion, is the question that is to be settled in all probability by our generation for future generations.
There is a clash here as profound and as grim as between Christianity and Confucianism [yin and yang philosophy]. Amiable words cannot hide the difference. ‘Blest Be the Tie’ may be sung till doom’s day, but it cannot bind these worlds together. The God of the Fundamentalist is one God; the God of the Modernist is another. The Christ of the Fundamentalist is one Christ; the Christ of the Modernist is another. The Bible of the Fundamentalist is one Bible and the Bible of the Modernism is another. The Church, the kingdom, the salvation, the consummation of all things-- these are one thing to Fundamentalists and another thing to Modernists. Which God is the Christian God? Which Christ is the Christian Christ? Which Bible is the Christian Bible, which church? Which Kingdom? Which Salvation? Which consummation of the Christian Church?... The future will tell."
That the church leaders recognize this division is revealed by the following quotation from "Voice" by Dan Gilbert, in which he describes a conversation with a liberal churchman:
The Liberal:
"The leaders of liberalism no longer fear an ‘uprising’ or ‘revolt’ of the orthodox against our leadership."Mr. Gilbert: "Surely you must agree that there are still millions of old-fashioned Methodists who believe in the Faith-- who are against your program of making war upon the Bible?"
The Liberal: "Certainly, I am aware of that fact. But the average Methodist is loyal to his denomination. He will follow us wherever we lead him. Occasionally we may loose a church member, but this happens only rarely. Church loyalty insures the success of the liberal movement. You could, perhaps, convince many of our people that we are leading in the wrong direction, but they would still follow us. Of course they would hope-- and pray-- that we would change around and go back to the Bible, but they would not desert us even if we didn’t."
Now the Methodist Church has brought everything up-to-date by bringing the dance and jazz band into the Church. As we look at this; all hope of a purged church must be abandoned, as apostasy and unbelief are in ascendancy; then a real born-again Christian, who remains in the Methodist Church, should face these questions in the fear of the Lord.
Shall I be loyal to this Church, pay my tithes that GOD has put in my hands for His Glory, to the following:
1. Leaders who have departed from the faith of the Bible and Methodism.
2. Unsound literature.
3. Unsound colleges and seminaries.
4. Watered-down Social Gospel.
5. The Federal Council with its "Pink fringe" and near Communism.
6. The "World Church" headed back to union with Rome.
If I help put such a program over by my gifts or my membership, I am partaker and sharer of the sin.
We are faced with the question, "Shall I come out or stay in?" This answer may be found in Revelation 18:4
"Come out of her, my people, that ye be not partaker of her sins."
But you may say, "My local church is sound and that satisfies me." Each Methodist is part of the whole Church and if you stay in , you must support the program of the whole Church. Then read again Acts 5:29,
"We ought to obey God rather than men."
HERE IS OUR ANSWER
Fourteen years ago, GOD called us out of the Methodist Church to re-establish an old-fashioned John Wesley Methodist Church.
The Evangelical Methodist Church is founded on the inspiration and authenticity of the Bible and upon the Articles of Religion as set forth by John Wesley.
The smile of GOD is on us and the growth of this Movement is the answer to our critics.
The Evangelical Methodist Church is congregational in government and is also connectional with sufficient supervision to provide strength and unity.
