Hi! I'm Marc Uhrey and this is my wife Lanae.
Wouldn't it be great if we could remain young forever? This picture was taken almost 30 years ago just before our wedding. We don't look this way now of course! Click here for a more recent picture of me. To see a picture of me taken in October, 1998 near the hotel window in Biersdorf, Germany, Click here. Or you can see a picture of the Uhrey family taken in December, 1998. From left to right are Lanae, Andrea, Ryan, Alisha, Marc.

This Web page is devoted to a search for my paternal ancestry. As a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, genealogy is an important matter to me. You can follow the link to the FamilySearch database, which will give you access to the largest Family History Library in the world.

Members of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints (often abbreviated "LDS") take the words of Malachi 4:5,6 seriously: "Behold, I will send you Elijah the prophet before the coming of the great and dreadful day of the Lord: And he shall turn the heart of the fathers to the children, and the heart of the children to their fathers, lest I come and smite the earth with a curse." We are here told in the Bible that the earth will be smitten with a curse unless the children look to their fathers (ancestors) and vice versa. This is a very important purpose for genealogical research. To learn more about the "LDS" belief in the reasons for Genealogy, click here and then click on "Why Family History?".

My father, Robert Lee UHREN, is descended from John Nicholas UHREN and Phoebe DESHLER. Robert had his name legally changed to Robert Lee UHREY (for fairly obvious reasons). I am therefore also researching information on both my UHREN and DESHLER ancestry.

My grandmother, Phoebe DESHLER's parents were John DESHLER and Lucy JOHNSON out of Rockingham County, Virginia. I have been researching this line for over 8 years with little success. The only real information that I have is a copy of a marriage bond that was posted for John DASHLER and Lucy A. JOHNSON on 6 Nov 1848.

I believe that John's father and Mother were Abraham and Barbara DESHLER. Some information that I have indicates that Abraham DESLER, b. 8 May 1784, d. 25 May 1842, was buried in Bethel Cemetery, in Rockingham county with his wife Barbara DESLER, b. 14 Jan. 1785, d. 15 Aug. 1845. I believe these two to be the parents of John DESHLER, although I have no definitive records linking them together.

I believe that Gottlieb Abraham DESCHLER may be John DESHLER's grandfather, and am searching for any information regarding his birth, marriage, or death.

My great-grandfather, Christopherus H. UHREN immigrated from the Bitburg, Germany area. In the german language, Uhren literally means "timepieces" ("clocks" or "watches"). I had the opportunity to visit Germany in October of 1998 (I missed the Oktoberfest, which was in September!). I travelled to Bitburg and Biersdorf, the areas where a goodly number of my ancestors lived in the past. It is a beautiful green, lush land, and I was very pleased to have the opportunity to visit the area. While there, I visited as many cemeteries as possible, and discovered that all the gravestones are newer than about 1940 or so. Because Germany has about 80 million people in a geographical area similar in size to Utah, space is quite limited. Thus, gravesites are very expensive, and if not paid for in perpetuity, they are recycled. I did find the following two headstones for people who are probably my relatives. See
Headstone 1 | Headstone 2

The UHREN pedigree chart shows that part of my ancestry.

I would be very grateful for any information that you may have that leads farther back in my ancestral research.
Please E-mail me if you have any information. Thank you.
