WINTERSON

Hester, daughter of John WINTERSON, was baptised on May 15, 1757 at the age of two and a half. She was the oldest of two children that I know of. Her sister, Ann, was baptised on the same day at six months of age. Most children were not baptised until at least one month after birth and I am not aware of anymore children born to John Winterson. The mother's name is not listed as it was not the practise to do so until the mid 1770s. The registers give only the baptismal date and only rarely, the birth date.

Yet, according to the parish register, Hester married John SHARP. This took place in the Parish of Tetbury, Gloucestershire on August 30, 1777 when Hester was 20 years of age.

Between 1778 and 1795, Hester and John had seven children. Their names and baptismal dates are: John, June 14, 1778 - Ann, July 16, 1780 - Mary, July 1, 1783 - Thomas, February 19, 1786 - Elizabeth, June 14, 1795 (aged 7 years) - John, June 14, 1795 (aged 4 years) and James, June 14, 1795 (aged 2 years). Their first child, John, died in infancy and was buried April 1, 1779. I note that the baptismal dates for the last three children was June 14th. Perhaps this was in honour of their first child, John, also his baptismal date.

I am descended from the fourth child, Thomas. So far, I've been unsuccessful in finding another researcher working on the WINTERSON line.
