Schmitt's Tropical Gardens

We enjoyed a walk through the gardens, and a luau, here.

Views of the NaPali Coast From the Helicopter

Up to 36 helicopters containing tourists may be flying around Kauai at any one time during the day. Our tour included views of the volcano crater, the waterfall in the opening to "Jurassic Park," and the beautiful NaPali Coastline. As you can see, we were only able to snap pictures of the latter of the three.

Snorkeling at Ke'e Beach

Ke'e Beach had calm, clear waters and friendly fish.

Our Hike Along the NaPali Coast

We hiked two miles, from Ke'e Beach to Hanakapi'ai Beach. We shot the first two pictures at the trailhead. The third picture is a view of Ke'e Beach from the trail. We also got a shot of the NaPali Coastline on our hike. The last three pictures are different views of Hanakapi'ai Beach, one from the trail and the other two from the beach. Interested parties can hike the entire length of the coast (which is 11 miles, if memory serves me correctly), but need to obtain a permit to hike beyond the first two miles well in advance of their visit. We were told there is a beautiful waterfall four miles in, but the hike to it is considerably more taxing than the hike to Hanakapi'ai Beach (and requires a permit).

Other Scenic Shots

Waimea Canyon, Spouting Horn and the Waterslide at the Hyatt. Waimea Canyon was dubbed by Mark Twain as "The Grand Canyon of the Pacific." By the looks of it, it is difficult to believe that Kauai is also home to the wettest spot on earth. Spouting Horn was a fun sight to see; it is created by the water flowing into the lava caverns along the shore line when the waves crash. Last, but not least, is the waterslide at the Hyatt Regency, which empties into one of the Hyatt's many lagoons. This is a site that required no travel, and we visited often.
