I am a senior in high School and for my senior research project, my friend and I decided to study autism. In my research I came across your page. I would like to praise you for your strength, for even though I have lived through the death of my mother, don't believe I have the strength or courage you must have to face life. I will keep you and your family in my prayers. Always; Amanda

I am going to School to be a Special Education teacher and the poem really touched me. I seem to wonder a lot of the same things about Autism but not from a parent's perspective but from an educators perspective. My concern is always what are they feeli g....and that is something I would like to help find out some day as an educator.

I had the privelege of working with Matthew when I started in this field of education. I was fortunate enough to have him in my class for a year and a half. I have worked at St. Mary's Day School for almost eight years now and love every minute of it. I h ve been working with the older chilren for the past six years (ages 16-21). Who knows, I may have the pleasure of having Matthew in my class again someday. I feel blessed to be able to work with these special children. They have taught me a lot in the pas eight years. Keep up the good work. We need more parents like you.

Hi, my name is Gale Prol. I would like to hear directly from the heart of a parent of a child with autism as to what they would like the most help with in their day-to-day coping. In other words, could a network of volunteers provide a special service t the parents that would lighten their load, carry-on their efforts, fill needs? This service could include such things as grocery shopping, day-out, educational (tutoring) support for their child, big brother/sister type relationship building for their c ild....the list goes on. Most of the associations and support groups I have looked into offer newsletters, meetings, research, fundraisers and the like, but do not involve themselves with the day-to-day struggles and needs of individual parents. I would like to petition the Autism Society of America to support and promote these types of programs at their local chapter levels and lend support in the way of training, organizing and directing the efforts of the chapters. Any thought on this? Your reply wo ld be greatly appreciated at your convenience. -Ms. Gale Prol

I want to thank you for taking the time to share your story. My son was diagnosed with asperger's syndrome last year. Altough it is not nearly as severe as autism there are alot of the same tendencies. He is verbal which makes things a lot easier once the understand how to communicate, he is in therapy doing that now. I appreciate hearing your trust in our Lord. He is faithful and will always give us the strength we need to deal with whatever is before us. I am sorry to hear that you had to put your son i school, I know that was a tough decision to make but very necessary for him. I am so glad you see things as we do in giving them everything they need to gain the most out of life, it is hard not to be selfish and want to keep them at home. I am going to hank you again and say after reading your story Matty could not have been given a better mother than you ! I too am thankful for my child exactly the way he was created to be, he has been and will be a special blessing to our family.God bless and be with ou always!
