Yarrowfell Dalmatians

What's New Archive

Monday 29 January 2007: Vale - Jaffa (Aust. Ch. Yarrowfell Romancer CD AD ET). Returned to us as a puppy as being unresponsive and untrainable, Jaffa went on to become our first agility titled Dalmatian, also picking up her Championship in conformation, Companion Dog title in obedience trials, passing her Endurance Test and being awarded a bronze Dunbar Medal. She was also the mother to 3 Champions and 5 endurance titled dogs. At home she took her role as 'top bitch' seriously, keeping everyone in line but still finding time to squrgle on her back on the carpet. Now at rest in the orchard with her mother, grandmother and grandfather, and some of her progeny, overlooking the valley. She will be sorely missed.

Thursday 21 December 2006: Earlier today Mandarin's puppies went to Sydney to have their BAER hearing test. The good news is that all the puppies have been assessed as having normal hearing in both ears. Click here for more information on BAER testing and why we do it.

Sunday, 19 November 2006: On Friday night Flame (Aust. Ch. Yarrowfell Fyrebird CCD ET) was awarded her first pass in novice obedience at the ACT Companion Dog Club trial with a score of 176/200, giving her 2nd place in the ring. The judge was Mrs E Temby (ACT).

Friday, 17 November 2006: On 8 November 2006, Mandarin, Aust. Ch. Yarrowfell Alls Forgiven CD ET, gave birth to nine healthy puppies! The father of the litter is Max, Yarrowfell Deja Vu, owned by Ms M Burton and Mr J Bisset. Click here to visit the new arrivals page.

Sunday, 5 November 2006: Crumble, Yarrowfell Whirlwind CCD ET, today obtained her final CCD pass and qualified for the title of Community Companion Dog. The trial was held by the Albury and Border Kennel Club, and her score of 86/100 gave her 3rd in the ring.

Saturday, 21 October 2006: Today Magnus, Aust. Ch. Yarrowfell Gold Sovereign, was awarded Best of Breed and Best in Group (Group 1st) at The Rock Show Society under Mr J Hayward (NSW). This gave him the final points towards the title of Australian Champion.

Saturday, 2 September 2006: Earlier today at the 11th National Specialty Show in South Australia, Crumble (Yarrowfell Whirlwind ET) was placed first in the Community Companion Dog (CCD) class with a qualifying score of 91/100. The judge was Mrs A Twaddle (SA).

Wednesday, 14 June 2006: Flame (Aust. Ch. Yarrowfell Fyrebird CCD) qualified for her Community Companion Dog title this weekend; three qualifications in just three trials over three days. The judge on Saturday was Mr G Field (NSW) at the Canberra CDC trial where she got second in the ring after a run off. The judge on Sunday was Mr S Schuck (ACT) who in his judges remarks after the trial congratulated all the dogs on a magnificent effort because it threw it down with sleet and rain during most of the day. That was at the Belconnen Dog Obedience Club trial where Crumble (Yarrowfell Whirlwind ET) also gained a qualification towards her CCD. The Judge on Monday at the German Shepherd Dog Club trial was Mrs S Field (NSW) where Flame was the only dog to gain a qualifying score being Best in the Ring. This means that Flame is only the second dalmatian in Australia to gain a CCD title joining her litter brother in great achievement for that litter. Also over the weekend Brooklands (Aust. Ch. Yarrowfell Fyrebrand CCD) owned by Mrs Julie Baird, qualified for the title of Australian Champion by gaining Dog CC, Best of Breed, Runner-up Best in Group and Open in Group at the Parkes and District Kennel Club Championship Show on Monday 12 June under Mr G Nowlan (SA). At the same show Magnus (Yarrowfell Gold Sovereign), jointly owned by Ms R Woiwade and Ms P Hurst, was awarded Reserve Dog Challenge, Runner-up Best of Breed and Junior in Group.

Wednesday, 26 April 2006: Last Saturday Brooklands, Yarrowfell Fyrebrand CCD, was awarded his two final qualifying passes and became the first Dalmatian in Australia to qualify for the new Community Companion Dog title! Brooklands was handled at these two trials by his owner, Julie Baird.

Wednesday, 5 April 2006: On 6 March, Dennis, Aust. Ch. Yarrowfell Zingaro CD ET, finally met a snake that was faster then he. Still he lived life to the full and perhaps would have preferred to go this way had he had the choice. I just wish he had been with us longer - he made such a impression on the whole family and everybody that knew him. We were very privileged to know him.

Wednesday, 12 October 2005: On Sunday the Dalmatian Club of NSW held its October Specialty Championship Show with Mr Rob Lawson (USA) judging. Dog Challenge and Opposite Sex Best in Show was Brooklands, Yarrowfell Fyrebrand, owned by Julie Baird. This was a fantastic win for the young boy who has consistently performed well at the highest levels. Congratulations on this impressive result.

Sunday, 2 October 2005: It's been six months since she was last shown, but Mandarin, Aust. Ch. Yarrowfell Alls Forgiven CD ET, proved once again she is still very competitive by taking an 18 point Best of Breed under Dalmatian specialist Mr David Staines (Liteflite Dalmatians, Queensland) at today's Canberra Non-Sporting, Utility and Working Dog Club show.

Saturday, 20 August 2005: Despite today's rain, we were very pleased when Philippa guided Mandarin (Aust. Ch. Yarrowfell Alls Forgiven CD ET) to the final pass for her Companion Dog title and First Place in the ring.

Sunday, 24 July 2005: Flame, Aust. Ch. Yarrowfell Fyrebird, is now an Australian Champion! Yesterday at the Harden Murrumburrah & District ABKC show she was awarded the final point she needed to qualify for the title. Will her brother Brooklands be next?

Sunday, 12 June 2005: Yesterday was the Dalmatian Association of Queensland's Championship Show judged by Dalmatian specialist Harry Glynn. Philippa made the trip north with Flame, Yarrowfell Fyrebird, who was awarded Best Intermediate in Show.

Sunday, 27 March 2005: On Saturday the Dalmatian Club of NSW held its Easter Specialty Championship Show in Sydney, judged by Mr Ake Cronander of Albicans Dalmatians in Sweden. We had a very good day, with all but one of our dogs gaining places. Highlights include:

Thursday, 13 January 2005: We keep in touch with many of the people who take puppies from our litters. Regular readers will remember Crumble's litter from two years ago. We've now uploaded a page of photos with some of the puppies from this litter showing how they have grown up. Thanks everyone for sending in the images.

Monday, 3 January 2005: On New Years Day the Wollondilly ABKC held a twilight Championship Show judged by Dalmatian specialist Carolyn Byrnes-Suchy. Flame, Yarrowfell Fyrebird, was awarded CC and Best of Breed, while her brother Brooklands, Yarrowfell Fyrebrand, (owned by Julie Baird) was also awarded CC and Best Junior in Group. This was Brooklands first challenge certificate!

Following the show there was a presentation of plaques for dogs that were awarded titles during the previous year, including:

Monday, 15 December 2003: Sunshine (Yarrowfell Arabian Nites ET) and Neil Trama her handler, were presented with the Joan Goldberg Trophy for 2003 at the ACT Companion Dog Club recently. The trophy, which has been an annual competition since 1973, is awarded to the dog and handler that has achieved the highest aggregate points in Club competition during that year. Not only did Sunny beat over two hundred rivals but she did it in grand style gaining a first in competition at each of the four training levels, an almost unheard of feat. This achievement is all the more remarkable because Sunny has only been with the Trama family for 18 months having been returned to us by her previous two owners as "unsuitable". It just goes to show what a difference love makes.

Monday, 24 November 2003: Yesterday Dennis, Ch Yarrowfell Zingaro CD ET, received his final pass towards the title of Companion Dog. The trial was hosted by the Cooma and District Kennel and Obedience Club in very wet weather, and the judge was Ms A Butler (NSW).

Wednesday 29 October 2003: Yesterday Maggie, Yarrowfell Youre On Next ET, went into labour and delivered 8 puppies. The sire of the litter was Raine, Aust Ch Lukius Draco Malfoy, owned by Ms Rebecca Woiwade. Click here to visit the puppy page.

Monday, 1 September 2003: Last weekend Max, Yarrowfell Deja Vu, had his first big win at the Narromine Show. At barely 8 months of age he was awarded CC, Best of Breed and Best Minor Puppy in Show by the judge Mrs S Brown (NSW). This gives him the first 14 points towards what we hope will be the next Australian Championship for a Yarrowfell Dalmatian.

Monday, 4 August 2003: On Sunday the ACT Canine Association held its annual Endurance Test at Exhibition Park in Canberra. Among the qualifiers were Sunny (Yarrowfell Arabian Nites ET) owned by Neil and Liz Trama, along with our own Morse (Aust Ch Yarrowfell Abacus ET) and Mandarin (Aust Ch Yarrowfell Alls Forgiven ET). Click here to see more pictures from the Endurance Test.

In other results Nemo, Aust Ch Yarrowfell Ultra Dog CD ET, was awarded 2nd in the Veteran Dog class while Morse, Aust Ch Yarrowfell Abacus, was 3rd in the Intermediate Dog class. Finally congratulations to Leonie and Phil Trevenar and their new puppy Harris, Yarrowfell Checkpoint, who was awarded 3rd in the Baby Puppy Dog class at his first show! A new page has been uploaded on Jaffa's litter - click here to see it.

Monday, 23 December 2002: A huge batch of images of the puppies taken over the weekend has now been added to the puppy page. Click here to see them.

Both the dogs are now just one CC away from the title of Australian Champion...

Thursday, 18 July 2002: As part of a comprehensive program to test all our breeding stock for inherited diseases, yesterday four of the dogs were presented for an opthalmic examination. Clear eye certificates were provided to:

Wednesday, 17 July 2002: The ACT Canine Association held its annual endurance test in Canberra last Sunday. Amongst the successful dalmatians at the test was Maggie, Yarrowfell Youre on Next ET, owned and handled by Glen Moorby. For pictures and details of the trial click here.

Wednesday, 27 February 2002: Some new photos have been uploaded to the page for Mandarin, Yarrowfell Alls Forgiven.

Monday, 25 February 2002: Last weekend the 2002 Royal Canberra Show was held in Australia - Dalmatians were judged by Mrs S Sutherland from Victoria. We were very fortunate that Morse, Yarrowfell Abacus, was awarded the CC and Best of Breed. This is a rare acheivement for a dog who is only 16 months of age and against numerous BIS and BISS winners. In other results Mandarin, Yarrowfell Alls Forgiven, was awarded 1st in the Junior class and Nemo, Aust Ch Yarrowfell Ultra Dog CD ET, was placed 2nd in the Open Dog class.

George at 3 months
[ AVI format - 822K ]

Tuesday, 27 November 2001: I've been experimenting with the new video capture card and for the first time present video footage on the webpage. Click the still image above to see a short video of George, Aust Ch Yarrowfell Intaglio CDX TDX ET, in 1989 at 3 months of age. George went on to become the most titled Dalmatian in Australia, winning Silver and Bronze Dunbar Medals and was twice awarded the Highest Score in Trial at the Dalmatian Club of NSW. He crossed the rainbow bridge just a few months ago.

Tuesday, 13 June 2000: On Monday Nemo, Aust Ch Yarrowfell Ultra Dog CD ET, gained the third pass needed to qualify for the title of Companion Dog (CD). Over two consecutive weekends he obtained all three passes and on each occassion he was also placed 2nd at the trial.

Monday, 1 May 2000: Last Monday the Dalmatian Club of NSW Inc hosted the 8th National Specialty Championship Show, Obedience Trial and Agility Trial in Sydney. This was the biggest event of its kind in the history of Dalmatains in Australia with an entry of over 250 dogs. In the conformation under Ms Anne Hennigan (Canada) our new baby Maggie, Yarrowfell Youre On Next, was awarded 1st in the Baby Puppy Bitch class and Best Opposite Sex Baby Puppy in Show. In the Agility classes Jaffa, Ch Yarrowfell Romancer CD AD ET finished 2nd in the Open Agility with a non-qualifying time. Pictures from the show can be found on Maggie's page and Jaffa's page.

Wednesday, 22 March 2000: With the passing of the 2000 Dutton Grand Prix Rally I can now get back to normal things like work and updating the webpage. A new page has been added with details of the litter from Jade and Monty owned by Anthony and Kirrily Taylor. I have also added some very out of date show results and tidied up a few other things. Hopefully updates will be a bit more regular from now on...

Thursday, 30 December 1999: The page with photos and details on Gold's puppies has now been uploaded. Click here to view the page.

Wednesday, 22 December 1999: The webpage has fallen a bit behind recently - the big news is that Gold, Ch Yarrowfell Supermodel ET, had her litter on December 6. The father was Chips, Trailblazer Mr Chips, owned and bred by Joy and Brian Venables. A page for the litter will be uploaded as soon as the photos are developed.

Tuesday, 12 October 1999: Last Sunday was the Dalmatian Club of NSW's October Championship Show, Obedience Trial and Inagural Agilty Trial. The day was hot and sunny which took its toll on the dogs, however young Nemo, Ch Yarrowfell Ultra Dog ET, was fortunate to be awarded Highest Score in Trial with a non-qualifying score in Novice Obedience. This is the same award that his father George, Ch Yarrowfell Intaglio CDX TDX ET, has won twice in the past. Unfortunately George bombed out early in the Open Obedience, while Jaffa, Ch Yarrowfell Romancer CD AD ET, ran around the very last gate in Open Agility to just miss out on a qualification.

Wednesday, 6 October 1999: Regular surfers will have noticed we haven't been going to many shows over the last year. Neil has been quite ill and, following surgery and subsequent therapy, he is finally regaining his health. Last weekend was a long weekend in NSW and the first time that he has made it out for a weekend of showing for quite some time. It was a good weekend as well - Nemo, Ch Yarrowfell Ultra Dog ET, was awarded Runner-up Best in Group (Group 2nd) on two days out of three! Full details can be found on the show results page.

Thursday, July 29 1999: Last Sunday saw the running of the annual Endurance Test in Canberra. We were successful with our own Penny Paddle-Pop (Yarrowfell Rallentando ET) from among a field of seven Dalmatians. Here are the photos from the day.

Yarrowfell Dalmatians background

Tuesday, June 22 1999: It's here! The official Yarrowfell Dalmatians background for Windows has arrived. Be the envy of your friends and workmates with this typical winter scene from our home i.e. all the dogs inside the house and in front of the fire! It comes in two sizes to suit different screen resolutions; just click on the one you want and, once it's dowloaded, unzip to your c:\windows directory. Hint: there are eight dogs in the picture including Yogi the Pug - can you find them all?

Thursday, April 15 1999: Well I've finally got around to digitizing the pictures of Jaffa's puppies. The new puppy page can be found here. The Mother is Jaffa, Ch Yarrowfell Romancer CD AD ET, and the Father is George, Ch Yarrowfell Intaglio CDX TDX ET.

Thursday, April 1 1999: Dalmatians were judged yesterday at the Royal Easter Show (Sydney) by Mr R Hubenthal from Norway. Oscar (Yarrowfell Xterminator), owned by Glen McCormack and Nicole Hoffman, was unlucky not to be placed in the Puppy Dog class. Nemo (Ch Yarrowfell Ultra Dog ET) was awarded fourth out of twelve in Open Dog. Crumble (Yarrowfell Whirlwind), owned by Rebecca Woiwade, was unplaced in the Junior Bitch class, while Jaffa (Ch Yarrowfell Romancer CD AD ET) was absent from the Open Bitch class since she's still feeding the puppies.

Monday, March 1 1999: Yesterday Jaffa, Ch Yarrowfell Romancer CD AD ET, went into labour and delivered 11 puppies, 7 of which were born stillborn with only one being able to be revived. It was a very traumatic experience and will take some time getting over. A page on the litter will be established soon. Sunday was also breed judging at the Royal Canberra Show where Nemo, Ch Yarrowfell Ultra Dog ET, was awarded Reserve Dog Challenge under Dalmatian specialist Mrs F Birch (Vic).

Monday, February 1 1999: It's been a while since I updated the webpage, primarily because I broke a couple of bones in my foot playing touch footy. I'm still on crutches but back at the computer screen - with any luck I'll be able to run by the Sydney Royal in April so I can show some of the dogs. Yesterday my parents took Nemo and Jaffa to our local show at Bungendore. Nemo, Ch Yarrowfell Ultra Dog ET, was awarded Dog Challenge, Best of Breed and Best in Group. This was our first show since last October so the break obviously did the dogs some good.

Friday, December 4 1998: Congratulations to Nicole Hoffman and Oscar (aka Chocolate, Yarrowfell Xterminator), who went to their first show on Saturday November 21st at Cooma and District Kennel and Obedience Club where they were awarded Best Baby Puppy in Group by Mr NR Wenker (Vic).

Thursday, October 15 1998: We often receive requests from companies wishing to use Dalmatians in advertising - recently we were approached to provide a dalmatian puppy for The Canberra Times to use in a new campaign publicising their classifieds. We were able to borrow Crumble, Yarrowfell Whirlwind, from her owner Rebecca Woiwade for the shoot - her first time doing this sort of work. The first appearance of the final advertisment was in last Saturday's Canberra Times. A copy of the advert can be found here. Our fee from the photo shoot was donated to the Social Spots rescue fund and assisted with the costs of rescuing of two dalmatians locally.

Monday, October 12 1998: Yesterday was the Dalmatian Club of NSW's October Specialty Show and Obedience Trial. We were particularly unsuccessful in the conformation judging, however George, Ch Yarrowfell Intaglio CDX TDX ET, was awarded first in the Open Obedience and Highest Score in Trial. Unfortunately, there were no other qualifiers on the day. This is the second time George has achieved this honour - he was also Best in Trial at the Club's 1994 Obedience Trial.

Yarrowfell Romancer CD AD ET awarded title of Australian Champion

Saturday, October 10 1998: At today's Illabo Show Jaffa, Yarrowfell Romancer CD AD ET, was awarded her final CC to qualify for the title of Australian Champion. Full details are on the show results page. Tomorrow is the Dalmatian Club of NSW's October Specialty Show, to be judged by Mr Peter Rance from the UK. We will be showing Nemo, Jaffa, Gold and Cosmo as well as trialling George and Jaffa in Open Obedience and Nemo in Novice Obedience - it should be a very busy day!

Monday, September 21 1998: New puppy photos (probably the last) have been placed on Jade's puppy page. The show results page has also been updated with the results from last Saturday's show at Eugowra.

Tuesday, September 15 1998: The show results from last Wednesday and Saturday have been uploaded. Jaffa also trialled (unsuccessfully) at the Sutherland Agility trials on Sunday.

Tuesday, September 8 1998: Even more new puppy photos have been added to Jade's puppy page.

Wednesday, September 2 1998: One of the problems with trialling Jaffa almost every weekend is that going to ordinary shows becomes a low priority. Dad's aim in doing the recent Western Circuit was to get some more points for Jaffa and she came home with 25, bringing her to a total of 60. The results from these shows have been uploaded to the show results page. I have also added some new pictures of Jade's litter to the puppy page.

Tuesday, September 1 1998: Well, I'm just back from the snow and I still don't have any new show results to add. What I have done though is include a gizmo to automatically notify surfers by email when this page updates. To try this cool feature out just click here.

Thursday, August 20 1998: There will be no updates of these pages for the next week or so as I'm heading off to Falls Creek for a bit of snowboarding (and some apres-boarding!). As Dad is currently doing the Western Circuit shows with Nemo and Jaffa I hope to have lots of show results to upload when I get back.

Thursday, August 13 1998: The first pictures from Jade's litter have been developed, so by popual demand here they are.

Tuesday, August 11 1998: I have now scanned and uploaded the photos from the Canberra Endurance Test to the webpage.

Monday, August 10 1998: The news is a little bit old, but here goes: Jake (Yarrowfell Top Dog) was awarded his final CC at the Darwin Canine Expo on August 2nd to qualify for the title of Australian Champion. Jake is owned by Mrs Anne Meloncelli who moved from Canberra to Darwin earlier this year.

Tuesday, July 21 1998: Last weekend the Combined ACT Obedience Clubs held their annual Endurance Test in Canberra. Six dalmatians competed and all passed - they are:

The same day the Royal NSW Canine Council held its Endurance Test in Sydney. I'll try to post the results as soon as I get hold of them.

Friday, July 17 1998: There haven't been many updates recently as we haven't been going to many shows! This weekend is the annual Endurance Test and I will be travelling to Canberra to take Nemo, Ch Yarrowfell Ultra Dog, in the trial. I'll also be spending Saturday at the Kosciuszko National Park catching up on some snowboarding - something I'd love to take the dogs along to but unfortunately they are not allowed in any National Parks.

Thursday, June 11 1998: Over this last weekend Tania and Phil Walker entered their new puppy Kia, Yarrowfell Winonna, at two Townsville Kennel Association shows. At the Championship Show on Saturday, judge Mr JW Thompson (NSW) awarded Kia Best Baby Puppy in Group, and at the Open Show on Sunday, Mrs B Marker (Qld) awarded her Reserve Baby Puppy in Show. Tania said that as Kia is their first dog and these were their first shows, they are absolutely delighted.

Tuesday, April 14 1998: The Easter weekend is always a busy time for canine activities in Australia, and this last weekend was no exception. Jaffa, Yarrowfell Romancer CD ET, secured two qualifying rounds while competing at the Canberra Agility Festival, thereby gaining the title of Agility Dog. She was also awarded a special prize for the highest acheiving Non-sporting breed at the Festival. On Sunday Pearl (Spotacus Starbright), bred and owned by Martin and Lisa Richards, was awarded Best in Group at the championship show of the Canberra All Breeds Kennel Club at the age of just seven months. Pearl is the daughter of Snoopy, Yarrowfell Virtual Dog, and will soon have her own webpage. Meanwhile in Sydney, The Dalmatian Club of NSW held its Easter championship show on Saturday night where Penny, Gentry Questionable Lady, was awarded Best Junior in Show. Penny is from the first litter out of Nemo (Ch Yarrowfell Ultra Dog).

Tuesday, April 7 1998: The Royal Easter Show, Australia's most prestigious dog show, is underway here in Sydney at the site of the 2000 Olympics. Monday, March 9 1998: Nemo, Ch Yarrowfell Ultra Dog, is a father again! On 25 February Debbie Blyton of Dubbo NSW rang and told us that her two year old bitch Raz (Exchecka Razfordaz) produced nine healthy puppies. All survived and are doing well weighing between 11 and 14 oz at birth. There are five boys and four girls with one of each being patched. As this is Raz's first litter Debbie is delighted with the result and is eager to see how they turn out because the mating was a complete outcross. Don't be surprised if we procure some pictures of the puppies to put on the web page!

Dalmatian WebRing Award

Tuesday, February 10 1998: The Yarrowfell Dalmatians webpage has been awarded the Dalmatian WebRing Top Spot Award for Febraury 1998. A big thank you to all the people who have visited the site and voted in the awards.

Saturday, January 24 1998: It was a dismal day for the show of the Tarago Show Society. The weather was awful, almost all the other Dallies were called absent (even though they were there), and the Show Society actually charged some of the Dally exhibitors for ground entry! Dog challenge went to the only dog that made it to the ring, Nemo (Ch Yarrowfell Ultra Dog), while bitch challenge went to the only bitch, Penny (Gentry Questionable Lady). Nemo went on to get Best of Breed and Best Open in Group, so we had to stay all afternoon through the rain and hail.

Friday, January 9 1998: I've finally finished uploading Nemo's Tour of Tasmania, the journal of my holiday to Tasmania with Nemo and Gold. Please take the time to look at all the photos, they show some of the most spectacular scenery Australia has to offer.

Tuesday, November 18 1997: Last weekend was the show of the Young and District ABKC where "Nemo", Ch Yarrowfell Ultra Dog was awarded Dog CC and Best of Breed. Unfortunately I've been too busy to finish off Nemo's Tour of Tasmania - at this stage I'm aiming for the end of the week.

First update has been the completely revised section on the organisation of breeding, exhibiting and trialling in Australia (thanks to Dad who was working on it while I was away). Coming soon is Nemo's Tour of Tasmania, the account of my trip to Tasmania with Nemo and Gold. All of the photos have been digitised and I'm doing final editing of the text as I find the time.

Saturday, October 4 1997: I'm on holidays at the moment, so updates may take a bit of time. Tuesday, July 8 1997: The smaller than anticipated show of the Belconnen All Breeds Kennel Club on Saturday July 5 was the scene for an upset win as "Titus", Yarrowfell Superdog, came away with the Challenge Certificate over Ch Kirindal Kings Gift.
