Census records indicate that that is the birth place of William and Amanda. I believe William had a brother Isaac Cullin. Great Grandmother Hannah Lenora Cullins b 10 Jan 1866 in Westfield, Fayette, Iowa d 8 Nov 1921 in Fayette, Fayette, Iowa m 1 Jan 1886 in Fayette, Fayette, Iowa to David Lincoln Shaffer Hannah was the sister of Martin Cullins, who married David Lincoln Shaffers sister, Minnie Shaffer. In later years Hannah was a very big woman, probably 300 lbs. She died of cancer. The Cullins family home burned and they lost all of their possessions and family records. A picture of Martin shows him to be lean and fit. Hannah told my grandmother that she got bigger with every pregnancy. She lost four young children, which must have been very difficult for her. From my grandmothers notes: "Your grandfather (Lyle Bryon Shaffer) seems to know practically nothing about his mothers folks. Hannah was born near West Union. Her parents were William Cullins and Amanda Cordray Cullins. Amanda was one of a family of orphans. The family Bible was destroyed in the fire. The Cullins attended a Protestant country church near Lima. They were Democrats." Cullins Links: |
