Dorothea Enking

bur Mary 1891, Evergreen Cemetery Omaha NE

m Johann Christian F Timmermann "John"

Dorothea died giving birth to her tenth child. Other family names associated with this Enking family: Treckel, Hartmann and Denker (all from Nebraska.) She died at the home of sons Otto and Ben near Waterloo, NE and was buried from the First Lutheran Church, Papillion, the Rev. Siebert presiding. All of Johann and Dorothea's children were born in Schleswig-Holstein Province in Germany, with the exception of Nellie. They were probably from the village of Fuhlenruehe near Hartenholm which is between Kaltenkerchen and Sereberg. The nearest large town is Lubeck. This area was at one time part of Denmark. The family arrived in the United States 14 Nov 1888. All except Nellie were baptized in the Lutheran Church in Germany, and confirmed at Zion Lutheran Church in South Omaha. Nellie was born about 1 1/2 miles east of Papillion NE (later known as the John Schobert place). Nellie lived only a short time and was probably baptized by her father, as was the custom then if a baby wasn't expected to live long, and no pastor was available. -- Notes from Timmerman Genealogy by Bill Timmerman
