I am not a sportive person by any stretch of imagination. But so
are probably most of rec.sport.* readers.
But there is one game that I love, and this is football. When I
was writing this page I thought about using the name "soccer" to avoid
confusion, but decided against it: the people who understand this game,
call it football anyway. ;-)
First of all, my favourite team is
Dynamo
Kyiv. My passion for this team started many years ago and will probably
stay with me forever. They had two golden periods: around 1975, which I
do not remember, and around 1986, which I remember very well. After the
fall of Soviet Union the ukrainian football was not doing too great, but
it's improving. Now Dynamo has got Lobanovsky back, may be he will do something
with them.
Funny story: when UEFA decided to give all the points Soviet Union
had to Russia, I was complaining to my south-american friend how unfair
is this decision. Ukraine always had at least as many teams in premier
league as Russia, and the only team with achievements in European Cups
is mentioned above, so why all the points went to Russia (not to mention
the place in the World Cup)? So, this friend pointed to me the real reason
- yes, Ukraine had more premier league teams, but Russia had more missiles.
;-)
Oh, well, we still can beat Spartak
- and that's the only thing that counts. :-)
So, to the links.

Dynamo Kiev brings really sweet memories, but I live in Israel now. Read about Israel football at Oleg Fleshler's page . My favourite Israeli team is Maccabee Haifa, don't know why. Football in Israel has improved greatly but still leaves much to be desired. Actually, two main problems are the same as in any field here: lack of discipline of the performers and the lust after immediate results of the managers.
And the reason this page is not called simply "Football" is this
