This
page is dedicated to my father Lorne Hezekiah King,
(1903 - 1985), and mother, Geneveive Beatrice Ash,
(1907 - 1969), descendants of the first King and Ash families to reside in Pugwash, Cumberland
County, Nova Scotia, Canada, around the beginning of the 1800's. The intentions of this
page are; to append and expand upon, the research done by members of the North Cumberland
Historical Society, on the ancestry of my fathers family. Our family gratitude, is extended to the
late Mr. J. R. MacQuarrie, a former president of the N.C.H.S., who had documented much of the
information that piqued my interest in genealogy. As many before me, I only wish that my
interest had been brought into play, before the demise of my parents. Hopefully, I will be
able to expand on what is known at present, and may those that visit and read this page find
something of interest, and anyone with information that is pertinent to this branch of the
King family, would be so kind as to E-Mail or write to the address at the bottom of page.

A brief history of the Cumberland Kings.
The first King's to arrive from New England,
(Massachussetts ?) were, Hezekiah (b.1741), John, and Josiah King, they all received (1) share
of land under Cumberland Township, "Letter "A" Grant" of, 22 November,
1763. The only one I have records for, is Hezekiah King, who was first married to a daughter of
Captain Benoni Danks, stationed at Fort Cumberland, ( formerly Fort Beausejour, under the French up to 1755 ).
Hezekiah and Roxanna (Danks) King, had three children; Hezekiah (b.1772), Sally (b.1774) and
Benjamin (b.1776). These three stayed in the Sackville area, now in Westmorland County,
New Brunswick, Hezekiah (Jr.) is listed in later census records, Sally married (c.1795) William
Lawrence of Sackville, and Benjamin lived below the Westcock abideau in 1820 at Goggins.
Roxanna died sometime before 1881, when Hezekiah married (c.1881) Olive (Morse) Eddy,
widow of William Eddy, killed (3 May 1778) by a British "Man-O-War" off the coast of Machais, Maine.
Hezekiah and Olive King had children; Daniel (b.1782) (lived in Wallace Bay, NS),
George (b.1784) (lived in Port Philip, NS), Charles (b.1786) (lived in Wentworth, NS), John (b.1794)
(lived in Mount Pleasant, NS) and Oliver (b.1796) (lived in Pugwash, NS). These children all
married and thrived with large families.
I have very little information on the Sackville branch of this family, as well as
the family of Charles King who resided in Wentworth, Cumberland County, Nova Scotia. As far
as the rest of the King and connected families, my database is growing quite well.
