My Mother, Maurine Jenkins Cooke, started our family tree search back in the 1950's and 60's. She's given her files to me to take into the "Computer Age". I've finally got my tree loaded into the computer and started my search on-line. My sisters, Carol Bailey and Lacretia Edwards, help me in the physical search through cemeteries, museums and libraries. Like everyone else researching their family histories, I've run into the "end of the line" in several family branches. Below are my "Dead Ends". NATHANIEL BAILEY, b. ??s, sailed to U.S. from Belfast, Ireland, Sept 8, 1767. Married Jane????, his son was James Bailey, b. 1758d. 1822. The line is Nathaniel, James(Mary Hall), Wyatt(Margaret Turner), Barnabus Turner(Mary Mitchell), Mary Elizabeth(Ruben Thomas Holifield), Jesse Thomas Holifield(my maternal great grandfather) Looking for info and parents on Nathaniel.


WILLIAM BENSON, married Eleanor Key. Their son, Elias Benson,Sr. died around 1854. Lived in Cahaba, Perry County, Alabama. Elias/Martha's daughter, Martha Price Benson, married Samuel Claudius LeVert. The line is Elias Benson, Martha P.(Samuel Clausius LeVert) Henry Edwin LeVert, Phonebe Levert(Married Jesse Thomas Holifield), my Maternal great Grandparents.


SUSANNAH BINN, born around 1732 in Virginia, married to James Pye and lived in GA. Looking for her parents. Their daughter Mary, married Daniel Holifield. See Holifield line.


MARGARET BLAKELY, b. abt. 1758, d. Feb 27, 1844. Married John Copeland, Sr. , buried at Duncan Creeki Pres. Ch., Clinton, S.C. Her husband is DAR #190464


ELIZABETH ANN BOYD, b. June 2, 1788 in Va. d. Oct. 1865 in Maplesville, Chilton Co., Ala. Married Basil Andrew Woolley, Sr., Dec. 29, 1805 in Chester Co., South Carolina.


JOHN CARTER, father of Margaret Carter who was born 1797 and died in 1859. She married Wyatt Bailey, but I know nothing of her father but his name May have lived in Talledega and Bibb Counties, Ala. See Bailey line.


JOHN CHAMBERS, married Elizabeth Neely . Daughter, Sarah Chambers b. Sept. 27, 1787 in Chester Co., So. Carolina and she moved to Perry Co., Ala. Looking for parents and info. on John.


JEREMIAH CLEVELAND, b. 1701, son was Jacob Cleveland, Sr. b. May 6, 1729 in Culpepper Co., Va. Son Jacob later moved to Elbert Co., Georgia. Line is Jeremiah, Jacob Sr.(Mildred White), Jacob, Jr.(Rhody Lyons) Rice(Barbara Ann Stalnaker), William Mosely(Margaret Copeland)Barbara Ann Cleveland who married William Ellison Jenkins on Nov. 26, 1865 and died in McDonough Ga.


THOMAS FLEMING CLINTON , b. 1813 in South Carolina. Married Mary Polly Wherry Dec. 21, 1840, later married Frances Elizabeth Rhinehart Carter Aug.13, 1868. Line Thomas Fleming, James Miner, Pearl Geneva Clinton (my Grandmother)


THOMAS COOKE, Died around 1833/34, Lived in K&Q County, Va., and later lived in Halifax County, Va. His wife may have been Mary Ann Cooke. His children were, Thomas, Jr.,Richard A., Nancy L. Hipkins, and my line, William Allen Cooke (, b. 1810 in Virginia, maybe King & Queens County. His first wife was Elizabeth Raglan Ussery. Oldest son, William Allen Junior was born in Halifax County, VA in 1838 and died in 1848 in Eutaw Alabama where the family had moved. William Allen Cooke was an over-seer. Other children of his first marriage may include, Henry Clay Cooke, Benjamen Franklin Cooke, Mary Cooke, Mordecai Cooke and Dixie Cooke. After Elizabeth Ussery Cooke died William Allen Cooke married Martha Massey and when she was 40 and he was 70 and they had my Grandfather, Wilbur Allen Cooke and my Great Aunt, Junie Cooke. We cannot locate his(Wm. Allen) grave, but she(Martha) is buried at Ivey’s Chapel in Sprott, Alabama. Her stone reads “To my wife”, and for this reason we believe he may have left to live with some of his adult children in another state. The line is Thomas,Sr., William Allen, Wilbur Allen, Wilbur Orlean, Sr.,Judy Orlene(me) Looking for Thomas Cooke, Sr. parents, and his wife etc.


JOHN COPELAND, SR. b. Feb. 12, 1747/48 in Craven Co., South Carolina, d. September 7, 1826. Revolutionary War Veteran, D.A.R. # 190464. Married Margaret Blakely. Will probated in Laurens Co., So. Carolina. Line is John Sr., John Jr(Nancy Mills), Margaret Copeland(William Mosley Cleveland), Barbara Ann Cleveland from McDonough, Ga.(my maternal 2XGreat Grandmother.


DORCAS COULTER, b. 1745 d. Oct. 19, 1810 and buried in Fishing Creek Presbyterian Cemetery, Chester Co., South Carolina. Married Samuel Wherry.


SUZIANNA CROWELL, married Randall James? Jenkins. Her son William Ellison Jenkins was buried in McDonough, Ga.

MARY HALL, b. 1765, d. 1833. Married James Bailey,son of Nathaniel. Son Wyatt Bailey lived in Talledega, Ala. in 1870 and Bibb Co. , Ala. in 1860.


CHARLES HEARD, b. 1695 in Virginia, d. 1748 in Albemarle, Virginia. married Issabella ????. Probably a blacksmith. May have lived in Cumberland Co., N. C., Wilkes Co., Ga. , Greene Co., Ga. Line is Charles, Charles(Elizabeth)William(Nancy McClendon), Charles(Sarah Whitman) Samuel(Sarah Elizabeth Stewart), Mary Elizabeth Heard(Henry Edwin LeVert) Phoebe LeVert(my maternal Great Grandmother.


SARAH HILL, Married Reubin Lockett in Warren County, Ga. June 27, 1800.


VALENTINE HOLIFIELD(HOLYFIELD,etc.), b. 1685 in Warwickshire, England , married Elizabeth Gilly. Was an indentured servant to Thomas Worthington in Anne Arundel County, Md.. 1729 land grant from the Lord of the Northern Neck in Stafford Co., VA. (now Fairfax Co.). Sailed from Scotland at 5 y.o. with parents who died soom after arriving in U.S. Farmed around Annapolis most of his adult life, then moved to Wake Co., North Carolina. Line is Valentine, Ralph(Jemima ???), Daniel(Mary Pye), Jesse(Periba Lacy), William(Dollie Tubbs), Ruben Thomas(Mary Elizabeth Bailey), Jesse Thomas Holifield (Phoebe Levert)my maternal great grandparents.


RICHARD HOLLEY, Kershaw District, S.C. Daughter Keziah married Oliver Massey. See Massey line.


ELEANOR KEY, Married William Benson. See Benson.


CLAUDIUS LEVERT, M.D., b. 1750 in Lyons Co., France. Married Ann Lea Metcalfe in 1785 in King William County, Va. He was a physician of Count DeRochambeau’s Fleet in Revolutionary War. Line is Claudius, Eugene Verdot(Martha Patton), Samuel Claudius(Martha Price Benson), Henry Edwin(Martha Elizabeth Heard), Phoebe Levert (Jesse Thomas Holifield) My maternal great grandparents.


PHERIBA LACY, b. Feb. 13, 1801. Married Jesse Holifield Aug. 31, 1815 in Oglethorpe Co., Ga.. Moved to Perry Co, Ala. before 1830. See the Holifield line.


THOMAS LOCKETT, d. 1686 in what is now Powhattan County, Va. Line is Thomas, Thomas, Thomas,(Warren County, Ga.) David, Rueben(Sarah ???), Sarah(James M. Massey).


EDWARD LYONS, Father of Rhody Lyons(b. jan. 25, 1772) Whe married Jacob Cleveland, Jr.


MARY MARTIN, b. 1709, d. 1780, Married Jerimiah White, lived in Va. See White and Cleveland lines.


ARTHUR MASSEY, b. 1736 (?Maryland) d. 1801 in Camden, Kershaw District, So. Carolina. Married Elizabeth Alston in 1760. Line is Arthur, Oliver(Keziah Welch), James M.(Sarah Lockett), Martha Jane Massey (William Allen Cooke), Wilbur Allen Cooke (my grandfather).


SAMUEL METCALF, Born in Northwick, Cheshire, England, wife unknown, Line is Samuel, Thomas(Elizabeth Strachey), Ann Lea Metcalfe(Born in Virginia and married Claudius LeVert). His father may have been William, son of Theopholus, but I have no proof. See the LeVert Line.


NANCY MILLS, b. April 12, 1789, d. June 29, 1872. Married John Copeland, Jr.. Her husband is buried in Clinton, S.C.. Barnabus Turner Bailey in Centreville, Bibb Co., Ala. Feb. 9, 1850. See Bailey line.


ANDERSON MOATE, daughter, Rebecca Moate, married Wm. James Jenkins and later lived in Ala.


MARTHA PRICE MOORE, married to Elias Benson, Sr., See Benson.


ELIZABETH NEELY, married John Chambers. may have lived in York County, South Carolina. Daughter, Sarah Chambers was born in Chester co., S.C. in 1787. See Wherry line.


THOMAS OSBORNE, married Martha Jones in Virigina in 1640. Looking for his parents and wife. His daughter, Margaret, married Thomas Lockett in Henrico County, Va. in 1667, and she is the mother of Thomas Lockett who married Martha Osborne in 1692. Cousins marrying cousins?? See the lockett line.


MARTHA OSBORNE, married Thomas Lockett in Henrico County, Virginia on 16 Feb, 1692. Looking for her parents.


SAMUEL PATTON,b. 1775 d. 1854 in Greene Co., Ala. He married Lydia Holmes on April 2, 1807 in Oglethorpe County, Georgia. She was not his first wife nor was she the mother of his children. Prominent land owner. 1850, Greene Co., Ala. census shows him living with his grandson, Henry M. LeVert. His daughter Martha Patton married Eugene Verdot LeVert. According to his will his other daughter, Elizabeth, married John M. Bates, and early sheriff of Greene and Hale Counties. Two of his grand-daughters were Margaret Willingham, and Martha E. Fowler. Another Samuel Patton lived in Greene County for a while, but he was a Methodist/Episcopal Minister from Tennessee..this is NOT the same man, but I do have his line recorded..I'm looking for his first wife and there may have been a second, and I'm looking for his parents. REBECCA PERRY, b. 1801 in South Carolina, d. April 14, 1900 and buried in Sardis Cemetery, Heiberger, Perry Co., Ala. Married Sion Tubb on August 5, 1822. See Tubb line.


JAMES PYE,SR., b. around 1735, in Wake County, NC, died November 2, 1835 in Oglethorpe County, GA. His wife may have been Susannah Binn, born around 1732, in Virginia. Other children married people with surnames of Lynch, Herring, Beall, Goolsby, Moody and Hooper. His daughter Mary married Daniel Holifield. See Holifield line.


BARBARA ANN STALNAKER, b. Sept. 22, 1803, probably in Abbeville District, So. Carolina, d. Nov. 12, 1889 in Walnut Creek, Henry Co., Georgia. Married Rice Cleveland. See Cleveland line.


SARAH ELIZABETH STEWART, b. 1830, d. Jan 1883 in Marion Al. Married Samuel Heard in Perry Co., Ala. See Heard/LeVert line.


JOHN STRATCHY, M.D., lived in Stratton Major Parish in King and Queen County, VA and died in 1756.


ELIZABETH JUDITH TOWNES, married Thomas Lockett in Goochland County Virginia in 1730. Looking for her parents. See Lockett line.


SION TUBB, b. June 27, 1805 in South Carolina, d. March 20, 1872 , buried in Sardis Baptist Church Cemetery, Perry Co., Ala. Sion(Rebecca Perry/Dollie(William Holifield), see Holifield line for rest.


THOMAS WASHBURN, b. January 8, 1818 somewhere in Tennessee,(maybe in Lincoln County) married Sabra Ann Woolley on Feb. 4, 1842 in Marshall Co., Alabama , d. May31, 1895 and Buried in Bethlehem Methodist Church Cemetery, Perry County, Alabama. On the 1860 census Thomas McDaniel, 16 y.o. was living with the Washburns. His children were named William, Basil, Andrew, Lucindia, Eli, Thomas and Minor. The line is Thomas , Effie, Pearl Geneva Clinton. Looking for his parents, etc.


SAMUEL WHERRY, d.around 1780. Had land grant in Craven Co., South Carolina, now Chester Co. Line is Samuel(Dorcas Coulter), John(Sarah Chambers), Mary Polly Wherry(Thomas Fleming Clinton ) see Clinton line.


JERIMIAH WHITE, b. 1695, d. 1776,in Virginia. Married Mary Martin. Jerimiah/Mildred(born in New York state)(Jacob Cleveland, Sr., See Cleveland line.


SARAH WHITMAN, b. 1795 in South Carolina, Married Charles Heard, Feb. 1, 1816 in Elbert Co., Georgia. See the Heard/LeVert line.


SALLIE LUCY WINFREY, married David Lockett in Warren County, Georgia in 1759. See Lockett line. Looking for her parents


RICHARD WOOLLEY, will recorded in Edgefield County, S.C. 1819. Wife may have been Nancy... Line is Richard/Basil/Sabra Ann(Thomas Washburn), Effie Washburn(James Minor Clinton), Pearl Geneva Clinton (my paternal grandmother)
