JESSE HOLIFIELD
Jesse Holifield married four times. He married Periba Lacy on 31 August, 1815 in Georgia. Martha "Patsy" Crews became his second wife on 21 July 1842 in Perry County, Alabama. His third marriage took place in Bibb County on 20 February 1840, to Jane Snead. Caroline E. W. became his fourth wife on 24 April 1856 in Perry County. She was his wife at the time of his death and is named in his will filed around 1871. Below is a list of his children with the different wives. I can only prove Joel and Jesse Daniel. Any help establishing the others will be appreciated. I cannot find the location of the Cemetery where Jesse and some of his wives and children are buried. I have a letter written in the 1960's saying that a researcher went to behind a house located at Morgan Springs/Crawford, a walked so far back into the woods that they needed a mule, but I haven't been able to find it. I also just realized that the will he filed in Perry County in the 1870's left everything to his wife Caroline E. W. until her death and then Joel was to divide the estate equally. The final settlement didn't occur until 1903, when his last wife died and it was supposed to be filed in Bibb County Alabama, according to the note I found. Anyone got a copy??? It should prove the children. Keep in touch if you're interested.
Children of Jesse and Pheriba Lacy Holifield
1. William Holifield, born FEB 20, 1828. On Nov. 10, 1852 he was married to Dollie Tubb (b. 1831-32, d. ) in Perry County Alabama. Her father was Sion Tubb. They lived in the Brush Creek Beat of Perry County and both are buried at Sardis Baptist Church, near Heiburger, and I have pictures of their graves. I have not been able to "prove" William is Jesse's son, so if anyone has a copy of the 1850 census showing William at home with his father, Jesse, I would greatly appreciate a copy.
2. Joel Holifield, born Feb 13, 1822, he married Mary Ann Elizabeth Blackburn(b. Oct. 16, 1829, d. Sept. 23, 1913, daughter of Elizabeth Gantt and Thomas Blackburn) on Nov. 28, 1850, in Perry County. Joel enlisted in Captain Howze's Company, Wyatt Guards (later Company C), 4th Regiment Alabama Volunteers, CSA and served three months, until he was discharged. He then mustered with Colonel Coleman's Regiment with order of May 13, 1862. He also served in Tarrant's Battery, Alabama Light Artillery. Joel died on August 6, 1878 and is buried along with his wife and her parents, at Mt. Zion Cemetery in Perry County, Alabama. I can prove that Joel is the son of Jesse because he is the executor of the will.

11. Jeremiah Holifield, "Jerry", born February 26, 1833, died November 2, 1862. Married Emeline J. Harper. She was born July 5, 1833, in Illinois(oh my goodness our first "Yankee"), and she died August 8, 1861 and is buried at Mt. Zion Cemetery, Perry County, Alabama. Her grave is in the middle of the cemetery, just to the left side of the cemetery as you pass into the back half of it. Jeremiah enlisted in Company E, 41st Regiment, Alabama Infantry, CSA, at Marion on March 28, 1862. He died at the University Hospital, Knoxville, Tennessee. The orphaned children lived with Mr. and Mrs. Alfred Ivie(aunt and uncle) after their parents death.

Son of Jane Snead and Jesse Holifield
Jesse Daniel Holifield, born January 1, 1850, in Morgan Springs, Alabma. Died August 17, 1892 in a coal mining accident in Bibb County, Alabama and is buried at Mr. Carmel Baptist Church in West Blocton, Alabama. He married Martha Liles on April 22, 1875 in Perry County. She was born near Atlanta, Ga., on March 23, 1853 and died September 10, 1947. She married again to Mims Keith in Bibb County. She later moved to Birmingham and is buried at Elmwood Cemetery in Birmingham. I can prove him, because he is listed in Jesse's will.
To my knowledge, Jesse had no children with his fourth wife.
