What is BHRT?
Black Horse Rolling Thunder Productions is the brainchild of saxophonist JP Banks, Jr. However,
the real purpose of this web site is to fulfill and assignment for CMIS 102 from UMUC.
Why the name Black Horse Rolling Thunder?
Actually, the name Black Horse Rolling Thunder was my idea of humor. I'm always playing around
with names and titles and one day this one stuck.
For those that don't know me, I'm a Black American and a member of an Air Force band.
Unfortunately, there aren't a lot of black people in AF bands for whatever reason. When I'm
performing concerts I often find that I'm the only black person in the building. So I started giving
myself nicknames like Lone Black or Big Black (I'm sort of on the chunky side of life). All my
nicknames had black in them.
One day we were playing the marches "Black Horse Troop" and "Rolling Thunder." The light went
on and a new nickname was born - Chief Black Horse Rolling Thunder! I dropped the Chief part
because I didn't want to offend Native Americans nor Chiefs in the military.
So there you have it. Perhaps one day there will indeed be a company called Black Horse Rolling
Thunder.
