Denis Laplante

Thanks to all who showed up. The Laplante Family Reunion of 1999 held at Champlain's Park " Field of Dreams" was a success.

Everyone I had a chance to meet had a great time, except for the young man I met on Sunday, who will remain nameless.:) His request to me was to have girls his own age, "not related, by the way" at the next family reunion. My answer to this young man: Never gonna happen. You are at the wrong place.:)

Friday's meet and greet followed by a pot luck was enjoyed by all and will most likely make it's appearance at all our family reunions in the future. That night a bonfire accompanied by a sing along and the appearance of a comedian/part-time weekend gynecologist, who will also remain nameless kept everyone laughing with some pretty good jokes. Personally if I was to ask about any female problems I'd ask to see his credentials:)

WOW! Saturday was a busy day. Over two hundred relatives from as far as Alberta and Spain showed up. Everything was in full force from the penny sale, geneology, ticket sales on blankets and clock, the selling of shirts, cookbooks and mugs.

Texas horseshoe and horseshoes was very popular and enjoyed by all ages, from teens to adult. the little guys also wanted to play, unfortunately with the metal being thrown they were turned away. But by the next reunion we will have bean bags and plastic horseshoes set up and they can have their own competitions.

We had many games planned for the kids but due to warm weather, this is summer after all, many activities didn't go according to plan. At the moment this is being worked on and will be in full force by the time we meet again. Seriously, I'll bring the snow if I have too.:)

While all this was going on Robert " The Chef" and his assitants were busy preparing the great meal we were going to sink our teeth into in a few hours. At about 7 pm that night everywhere you looked, everyone was found "Piggin out". Everyone to my knowledge enjoyed this very much and I'm sad to say another pig and a couple turkeys will have to come to our family reunion again and will never leave.:)

After the feast and everything was cleaned up and everyone made their way to a spot where to could relax, the family speaker spoke and welcomed everyone. A brief history on Jean Baptiste the first Laplante to come to Canada from France, many moons ago, and his descendants were briefly mentionned and today two of his children's descendants were here at the reunion. This was followed by the Reunion President thanking all the volunteers, families who donated crafts and their time. Who without their help it might have been a nightmare.

When all was done the crowd broke up and went their separate ways, some playing texas horseshoe, others singing around the campfire and the kids were doing the best thing of all, roasting marshmallows. One of the kids no more than 4, found herself roasting marshmallows for anyone who would want one of her " Charcoal Delights". Hopefully her cooking will improve by the time she feels the need to feed one of us again. Another 4 year old was requesting songs to be sung around the campfire. Twinkle, Twinkle little star was sung by the young and old.

As the night winded down and everyone made their way to their beds some unwelcomed critter was lurking about. He was spotted by a camper sniffing about, peeking into windows then escaping into the woods with a grin. He was gone, so we thought.

Sunday morning came and breakfast sounded like a great idea. Let's get the eggs! Guess what? Our little unwanted guest " Rac- Coon" with the grin sucked up all the eggs. At least somoene had a full belly. It was probably pay back for the pig and turkeys.:( Next time maybe our unwanted guest will be on the menu. Just kidding but he doesn't know that.:)

At this time the reunion is coming to an end, the afghans, clock, jelly beans are being pulled. The campground is being cleaned, alot of packing is going on and slowly the last trailer is pulling out. Bon Voyage! Until we meet again.
