Here are some of our favorite recipes. Many have been used for parties, and the dog recipes are personally taste tested by the LacShen crowd.

Puppy Chow - for humans only!

  • 1 stick margarine
  • 1 large bag chocolate chips
  • 2 regular Hershey milk chocolate bars
  • 1 1/2 cups peanut butter

Melt all ingredients together. Add milk if neccessary to make smooth.

  • 1 1/2 boxes Rice Chex

In a large bowl, pour melted mixture over Rice Chex. Stir until coated.

  • 2 boxes powdered sugar

Dump sugar and coated Rice Chex into a large grocer sack. Close and shake until everything is coated with powdered sugar. Store in closed container.

Caldo Xolchitl

A wonderful Mexican chicken soup with a little kick to it.

  • 2 1/2 lbs chicken (boned, skinned, diced)
  • 13 cups water
  • 2 1/2 tbsp chicken stock base
  • 1 tsp white pepper
  • 2 1/2 tsp ground cumino
  • 1 sprig fresh basil
  • 2 bay leaves
  • 3 each whole cloves
  • 2 tsp oregano leaves
  • 2 cloves garlic (minced)
  • 1/3 bunch of fresh cilantro (chopped)
  • 6 carrots (sliced)
  • 1 sm. onion (diced)
  • 3/4 lb garbanzo beans
  • 3/4 lb Zucchini (sliced)
  • white rice
  • avocado
  • pico de gallo
  1. 1: In a large post place chicken, water, chicken base, pepper, cumino, basil, and bay leaves. Bring to a boil, skim off foam and remove chicken.
  1. 2: In a blender or food processor, puree cloves, oregano and garlic with 1/3 cup of water and add to soup.
  1. 3: Add onions, garbanzo beans, carrots, cilantro and cook until carrots are tender.
  1. 4: Remove soup from heat. Return cooked chicken to soup and add zucchini (the hot soup will cook zucchini).
  1. 5: Serve over white rice and garnish with avocado and pico de gallo.

Hot Bean Dip

  • 2 lbs ground round, browned
  • 1 onion, chopped
  • 2 cans refried beans
  • 1 can green chili peppers
  • 1 1/2 cups hot picante sauce
  • 2 cups grated cheese
  • Tortilla chips

Mix first 5 ingredients. Put 1/2 in a baking dish and top with 1/2 of the cheese. Repeat layers. Bake at 350 deg until bubbly. Serve with chips

Taco Dip
  • 2 cans refried beans
  • 2 avocados - mashed
  • 1/4 cup lemon juice
  • mix together
  • 1 cup sour cream
  • 1/2 cup mayonnaise
  • 1/2 - 1 pkg taco seasoning
  • mix together
  • 1 large diced tomato
  • 1 cup diced onions
  • 1 can diced black olives
  • 2 cups grated cheddar cheese
  • Layer beans, etc. as they are listed.

    Serve with chips.

    Squash Casserole

    • 5 lb med. yellow squash
    • 2 eggs, beaten
    • 1 cup bread crumbs
    • 4 oz butter
    • 1/4 cup sugar
    • salt
    • 2 tbsp chopped onion
    • dash of pepper
    1. 1: Cut each squash into 3-4 pieces. Put in boiling water, cook until tender. Drain. Mash, then drain again.
    2. 2: Mix together all ingredients in buttered 3 qt cassarole.
    3. 3: Bake at 350deg. for 15 min.

    Strawberry Trifle

    looks great in a clear glass punch bowl

    • 1 yellow cake mix. Prepare, cool & crumble
    • 2 pk strawberry glaze
    • 2 8 oz cans crushed pineapple
    • 3 lg pkg instant vanilla pudding
    • 2 qt fresh strawberries, sliced
    • 2 tubs cool whip
    1. 1: Drain pineapple and mix with strawberry glaze
    2. 2: Prepare instant pudding as directed
    3. 3: In large punch bowl layer, in order:
        • Crumbled cake
        • Pudding
        • Glaze
        • Cool whip
        • Strawberries
    4. 4: Repeat layering, reserving last cool whip & strawberries until serving
    5. 5: Refrigerate overnight.

    Food for the Dogs

    Fat Food

    This is the stuff to use for dogs that won't eat that you need to put weight on

    • 1 lb hamburger (NOT lean)
    • 1 cup Total cereal
    • 1 cup Oatmeal
    • 1/2 cup wheat germ
    • 1 pkg gelatin
    • 2 tbsp oil
    • 2 tbsp molasses
    • 1 egg
    1. 1: Mix together.
    2. 2: Form into small meat balls
    3. 3: Package in baggies and freeze.
    4. 4: Defrost fat balls and feed. These may be used for stuffing, if needed.

    Peanut Butter Biscuits (from Bonnie Goodfriend)

    Marvin's personal favorite

    • 1 1/2 cup oat flour
    • 1/2 cup soy flour
    • 1 tbsp baking powder
    • 1 1/4 cup peanut butter
    • 3/4 cup milk
    Preheat oven to 400. In a mixing bowl, combine oat flour, soy flour and baking powder. In a blender, blend peanut butter and milk. Pour peanut butter mixture into dry ingredients and mix well. Turn dough out onto a lightly floured surface and knead lightly. Roll out dough 1/4 inch thick and cut into squares or use a cookie cutter. Place biscuits on baking sheet about 1/2 inch apart and bake for 15 min. or until lightly browned. Refrigerate or freeze.
