"Adventures of a Foster
Dog"
Those of
you who visit these pages regularly know that for a while this
fall, there was a fourth "Canine Clown" - a foster dog
named Ben. His is a wonderful story, filled with twists and
turns, and although he is no longer a member of our family, we
have decided to share the adventure in the hopes that it will
inspire others to get involved with canine rescue efforts. It is
presented as it originally appeared on these pages, together with
"the rest of the story."
Once upon a time... not so long ago, there was a Golden
Retriever named Ben. His human mom was faced with some difficult
decisions several months ago as she was preparing to relocate,
because she knew that at least for a while, she would be unable
to keep Ben with her. She presented her "quandry" to a
loving cyberspace community known as the G@H list... an e-mail list for Golden Retriever
lovers which has members from all across the U.S. and around the
world. Cheryl was one of the listers to reply with advice, adding
at the end of her post ".... and depending on where you're
relocating to, perhaps we could foster him for you."
Never in a
milliion years did Cheryl expect the response that was waiting in
her mailbox the following morning.... Ben's mom was going to be
living only ten minutes away!!!!
Sometimes,
it seems, Fate just takes a hand in things and, after several
discussions, it was decided that Ben would indeed join the Vetter
pack, at least for a while. Which brings us to today, October 4 -
BEN DAY! In the weeks ahead, Ben will be updating everyone on his
progress in his Journal, and we plan to add more photos as soon as
everyone gets a bit more settled down!
