It was the summer of 1995, I'd just done my A-levels, and was waiting for the results to come through before going to Uni. I wanted to get a job to earn some money and pass the time and had my heart set on waitressing. I searched and searched most of the summer for a waitressing job, but nothing came of it :(
I went to the job centre in Mildenhall to see if there was anything else I could do to earn some money, and found an interesting looking farm-work job for an agency. I decided to fine out more.
For the last two weeks of my summer holiday, I found myself working for Palmer's of Lakenheath, at a conveyor belt with a few other people, throwing away all the carrots that were not suitable to be sold in a supermarket. If you think that sounds boring, I found it FAR from such!!!
Before working at Palmers, I thought that all carrots were orange. That's where I was wrong! Did you know you can get red carrots, bright green carrots (- made my face light up whenever I saw one of them as they were so bright!), and white carrots?? You do now!!! :)
All the people at Palmers and in the agency I worked for were really friendly, even if they only did it for the money. There were certain perks to be found at the end of the line (no comment!), and I also got a few free vegetables out of the job :))
