In the Summer of 1996, despite flower picking in the mornings, babysitting a few afternoons a week, and waitressing at the weekends, I still wanted to do more, and so searched for an evening job.

About half-way through my holiday, I found an article in the Cambridge Evening News. "Bored in the evenings? Want to earn some money?" That advert was made for ME! I phoned up right away. It was a tele-canvassing job (advertising for new kitchens over the phone), and sounded quite interesting, so I thought I'd try it.

As the job was in Cambridge, it meant getting a bus from Mildenhall. I remember the interview. I was half an hour late because of the bus!!! I still managed to get the job, though, and started an evening a few days later. The only thing they insisted on, was you had to do at least 3 shifts a week. That was fine by me!!!

I thought it was fun ringing up people and letting them know we could give them a new kitchen if they wanted or needed one. Got some good conversations out of it! :)

As I had to get a bus which arrived in Cambridge about an hour before I needed to start work in the evenings, I often used to pay a visit to the library for 1/2 hour before walking the rest of the way there. What did I do? They had a few internet terminals there (for free!), so I'd either surf a few friends' pages, or send someone an e-mail (which could only be done from one terminal). Killed boredom!!!

The perk of the job was getting a new fitted utility room (our kitchen was fine!) for 1/2 price. Part of it was the 10% staff discount I got. I assured Mum the Kitchen's we sold were quality, and she was far from disappointed :)
