As the Summer of 1996 went on, there were less and less flowers to pick. I decided it was time to look for another job... :o/

About 3 weeks before the end of the holiday's, I found another article in the Cambridge Evening News. Turned out it was a tele-sales job, selling fax rolls and A4 paper for various companys. As I'd enjoyed tele-canvassing so much, I was sure I'd enjoy this too :)

I remember it well. It was a Monday morning. I hated dealing with the company people on the other end of the phone, and decided I'd had enough. At lunch-time I went wandering around the streets of Cambridge seeing what other jobs it had to offer. I passed a double glazing company's window, and yes, they wanted tele-canvassers!!! I went inside to ask more about it. I decided that maybe I could do sales part time, as the windows job was only for afternoons / evenings.

After my lunch-time, I told the sales people of my plans. They said that was fine, and I could train for the windows people on the Thursday afternoon.

During the time between that dreadful Monday morning, and the coming Thursday morning, I grew to like the sales job. I wasn't very good at it, which was bad considering I was to be paid commission only, but I actually grew to like it! :)

Thursday afternoon came, and then it happened. The hours for the canvassing had changed, and it was no longer possible for me to have both that job and the sales job. As I'm not a quitter and wanted to prove I could stick at a job longer than 5 seconds, I chose to keep the sales job.

I didn't make much money as a sales rep., but I got to go down the library in my lunch-times, so I kept myself happy. I didn't go back to sales or tele-canvassing after the summer of 1996, and am not likely to, as when I got back to college, I'd forgotten how to think for myself! I had indeed been left brain-dead... :o/
