Northfield Community Guide

Community Overview

Northfield is a village of about 5,000 17 miles north of downtown Chicago. The town, located just west of the Skokie Lagoon Forest Preserve, features extensive wooded trails and bridle and bike paths. Recreation opportunities are also afforded by both Northfield and Winnetka Park Districts. Grade school students attend district 29, 34 or 37 schools and go on to New Trier or Glenbrook South High Schools (small area of the southeast part of the village). *See below for details on schools.

Transportation needs are served by area highways (I-94/Edens Expwy., I-29/Tri-State Tollway, I-90/Kennedy Expwy.), and major local roads (Lake Ave., Willow Rd., Waukegan Rd.). Commuter service to downtown is provided by Metra at the Winnetka or Glenview stations. Travel time to the downtown Chicago station is about 40 minutes. Local bus service is available from PACE.
