Les Mason's Home Page

Leslie Mason,
29 January 1931 - 19 August 1998
The handsome young devil pictured above is our late father, Leslie Mason of Wigan, who sadly died last summer after a long illness. Dad left behind an assortment of memories - many good, some bad - and an equally varied bunch of offspring - two of us from his first marriage and six from his second.

We are hardly the Brady Bunch, but we have come to realise in the months since Dad's death that we have one important thing in common: namely, a firm conviction that Les Mason left us memories that are worth preserving and celebrating. We are sadly aware that our childhood reminiscences of him are partial and incomplete, and are curious to learn whether we remember him as he really was, or if we remember only those things that are important to a child.

With this in mind, we are building this Web site as a way to share what we remember about our Dad. Hopefully, it will also prove to be a means of making contact with those who knew him before we did: during his schooldays in Derby, his student career at the University of Manchester, his National Service at RAF Boulmer and RAF Uxbridge, and his working life at Rolls-Royce in Derby and BNFL in Risley. Dad was not someone who was easily forgotten: if you ever knew him, you would remember!

So, please enter our Web site and read on. If you find you are familiar with any of the people or places described in these pages, we would love to hear from you. If, on the other hand, Les Mason and the England he grew up in in the Forties and Fifties are completely foreign to you, this is your big chance to learn! Click on a topic below, and come and meet our Dad, Les Mason...
