Pioneer Village

Kaikohe - New Zealand

The Pioneer Village is a 19th Century Northland village, being re-created near the centre of Kaikohe. It began as a collection of buildings, many with historical significance, brought together from around the district, restored and furnished to give you the feeling of the Pioneer days.

See New Zealand's oldest courthouse, built in 1862; a charming cottage from 1875 with original kauri shingles etc; an 1888 Blacksmith's forge; the Tackhouse and Jail; a 1919 Sawmill undergoing complete restoration; Fire Station and Garage with 1936 Fire Engine and vintage tractors. Ride the bush train.
