A "Mature Student's" Life in College...."

October 23, 1998
My first entry on my "School" page. College started August 24th and enrolled in the following classes:

Visual Basic 5.0
Wellness 1 & 2
Visual Dbase 5.0
Cobol
Logic and Critical Thinking

These first 8 weeks have been very enlightening and challenging! I may be thoroughly committed, but having ample time to study these courses has proven the real challenge of all! But I have made the grade so far. *S* Visual Basic is very versatile and unique. Its programming seems be of its own standing. Unlike Cobol or Dbase, there is no methodology there to learning the coding and such. But practice and studying will make it come together. Dbase is a refresher for me; had it back in the early 80's. It has come a long way from that time frame! Much more user friendly and performs better. Cobol is......well.....COBOL! It hasn't changed all that much from the 70's. Its more methodical in its coding and easier to understand and grasp. Wellness 1 & 2 is another form of PE; instead of actually doing anything "Physical", like aerobics, we study health issues out of book. Its really geared to us "old timers" who are out of shape and helps the school avoid any cardiovascular infarctions! *LOL* It has been an educational experience though; I have learned the importance of me getting back in to shape. Logic and Critical Thinking is what it says! We are learning techniques in dealing with every day life in a logical and constructively critical manner. Applying English Composition tools as well.

My teachers are very knowledgeable and wonderful to work with. Ms. E. has a degree in Information Systems; she teaches Dbase and Visual Basic. Mr. M. teaches Cobol and encourages us to look for work as "Programmers"! *LOL* Ms. K. teaches Logic and Critical Thinking and works as a Principal for a High School during the day. Mr. H., a PE major and coach at WNCC, teaches the Wellness courses; and playfully harasses us women (but we get the better of him!) *hehehehe*.

Until next time........
