Turkey Mama's Favorite
Dutch Apple Pie Recipe

Courtesy of the Gabby Gourmet - KALL Radio, Salt Lake City

Crust
1-1/2 c. flour
1-1/2 t. sugar
1 t. salt
1/2 c. salad oil
2 T. cold milk

Filling
5 c. apples, peeled and sliced thin
1/2 c. sugar
2 T. flour
1/2 t. nutmeg
1/2 t. cinnamon
lemon juice

Topping
1/2 c. flour
1/2 c. sugar
1/2 c. butter (tastes better with real butter)

Prepare crust first. In a large mixing bowl, combine dry ingredients -- then add oil and milk. Stir and form into ball. Place in 9" pie pan. Form crust -- flute top -- place in frige.

Combine filling in bowl then pour into shell.

Mix topping until crumbly.

Place pie in a large brown paper bag (yes, the kind you get from the grocery store -- the less printing, the better). Fold, seal and staple shut. The paper bag will have an odor, but will not burn as long as it's not touching any heating elements or sides of the oven.

Bake in preheated 350 degree oven for 1 hour 45 minutes. NO PEEKING INTO THE BAG!!! *g*

I've had GREAT luck with this pie, but it's best hot and with French Vanilla Ice Cream.

Given to Fred Wix (The Gabby Gourmet) by Chris Mooney. Obtained in the late 70's or early 80's.
