whelchel research/ query From: Meanwitch1213@aol.com Hello Jean, I am researching my mothers family and have found some, but wonder if you might be able to help or direct me where to go. The family name is Whelchel changed to Wilkey or Wilkie. My grgrandfather was John William Whelchel aka Bill Wilkey, he is buried at Hall Station, at Mt. Carmel Baptist Church along with some others. I have tracked him fairly easy, but can't seem to get a death certificate on him, I have went through the county and the state and it seems that the death was never filed. I have spoke to someone at the church, but it seems all their records, for who is buried there was taken and never returned. His father-n-law and mother -n-law are also buried there but the marker doesn't have information on it. They were suppose to have lived in Adairsville all their lives and died there, but I am unable to find anything about them other than finding them on one census for 1910 on Tennessee Rd. and their name is Smith so that means there are hundreds. If you could help it would be a great help, or tell me where to find more information. Answer: I have found both names buried at Carmel Cem. Please send me some dates. More from Debbie: Hello Jean, thank you so much for your reply, He died April 6, 1942. If you could find this it would be great. Do you think I could find out anything about Frank or Lydia Smith, they are buried at Mt. Carmel too. The only thing on the headstone is J.F. Smith died Nov. 14, 1922,and something on the bottom upside down that says Mae Smith 1924 Also my mom told me that she has an infant sister buried at Mt. Carmel Virginia Wilkey who died in the 20's but the grave is unmarked, it was suppose to be a the foot of Frank Smith. If you can help I will be very grateful Thanks,Debbie ANSWER: Debbie I will check tomorrow and see what I can find.I also have a George Wilkle buying One Acre Cassville Town Lot no 88 on 10 Jan 1838 from John H Hutchinson. Remember this is the last census taken that it is by head of household only. Starting 1850 females are listed as are the children They are not listed in the 1850 census, nor the Morality records There were always a lot of Adair family in Georgia, during the Indian Removal most of them removed to Indian Territory (OKLA) Shelbyquilts@juno.com Hi Jean,I am looking for information about Tilman Alonzo (Lonzo) Allen who was born in GA about 1860-1865. MULLINS, DOLLAR, From: Cheryl Knight knight24@bellsouth.net Hello, I am looking for my family. Bet you haven't heard that line enough? My maternal grand parents are from around the North GA area. Grand father was born in either Canton or Waleska and is a James K. BOHANNON. Son of Lawson Bohannon, son of (we believe James Bohannon b in SC). What I need help with is my grand Mother's family. Her father was Mack Pierce MULLINS, Sr. b 1860 d 1894 in Cherokee coGA. Her mother was Willie Susie DOLLAR b 1860 d 1942. Mack's father was supposedly Green D MULLINS and had a brother Elias H. b. 1858 d 1891. Willie Susie had a sister Amanda Louise b 1866 who married a Mullenax and their father's name was Adolphus. This is basically all I know. My gmother did say that the MULLINS family migrated from Pickens to Rome, Floyd Co, to Cartersville, Bartow Co.I haven't been able to find anyone except Aunt Mandy's record of when she married the Mullinax and her children's names (in Floyd county). If you could help, I'd appreciate it.Thank you Cheryl Knight ANSWER: There were some Mullins family in the Pine Log Area of Cass/Bartow County in the 1800’s and Mullinax families in the Kingston area and there still are. Have you checked the Floyd County Web site? Seems they were in Floyd County more than Cass/Bartow. Let me know

Bartow Co., GA obit lookup From: mark k doss mnldoss@juno.com

Jean, I had the opportunity to go to the cemetery just the other week on my way through that area. I wrote down several names that looked like they could be their children. I was wanting to see who the obits had listed as their survivors since I've not had a chance to find them in the 1910 or 1920 census yet. There's not a place nearby that has the census. I have to go about 1 1/2 hr. away for one. Victoria and Mary are daughters of WHH White and Dicey Green.

I'm not sure about any children or relations for Mary White and J.T Henson. They are buried on top of the hill in the center a little closer toward the parking lot Victoria and John M. Henson are buried near W.H.H. and Dicey White just outside the front door of the church, then going back up to the left (up the hill) about 2 steps. These are the names that were buried near Victoria. Poss. Children of Victoria C. White and J.T. Henson: A. Laura G. Henson b. October 9, 1903 d. August 2, 1904 (not my will but thine be done - on tombstone - next to J.T. and Victoria) B. Colonel Henson b. October 29, 1900 d. May 4, 1922 (next to Laura)

C. John D. Henson 1902-1978 (next to Colonel) wife: Sadie K. b. 1910 no death date D. Matilda B. Henson Quintrell Casey b. June 28, 1905 d. July 15, 1988 (next to John D.) When I was at Oak Hill, 2 ladies were putting flowers on a Cline grave (Sarah Jane Cline & James B. Cline) which was right next to WHH White and Dicey. They told me that Sarah came from TX age 8 and was raised by her Aunt Dicey White but didn't know any more than that. WHH and Dicey are my husband's grgrgrandparent. I don't know the connection they had with Sarah as she would have been listed in the 1890 census with them. I'm guessing she must have been one of Dicey's siblings children. I'd like to see an obit on her too, to see if it would say anything about her past. I know I can write for a death certificate for her too.

Here's what I have on Sarah from SSDI SARAH CLINE Request Information SSN 252-84-6395 Residence: 30701 Calhoun, Gordon, GA Born 1 Mar 1872 Last Benefit Died Jan 1967 Issued: GA (1966) My goal here is to try to piece together his children and their families. WHH White's obit. and the census say he had 13 children. His will only lists 8. Those were the ones living. The others must have died young. His children, I believe, were all born in Cherokee Co., GA but I can't seem to find the other 5. That's another task though I've only been researching about 3 years so am fairly new at all this and open for any suggestions. Anything you can come up with on this family would be greatly appreciated ANSWER: Mark, in the Will abstract of W H H White. His wife was D M White lived at Pine Log, Was she in fact. Dicey? Children, Thomas N, James S, Henry H, Newton A, John L, Mary L that married a Henson, William P, Victory C, This was in 1902, This needs some old Newspaper checking.

RE: Maps of Bartow? From:Brenda Hawkins bfhawkins@earthlink.net I have some of that, but not all, and I'd like to check two locations actually. My ancestor won land in the 1832 lottery. We knew he lived in or near Cartersville for most of his life beginning in 1850 so assumed the land was in Cass. However, I just recently found the Section and District numbers for his win in the lottery and they appear to be in the original Murray and Murray/Gilmer counties. But I do not know the lot #. Unless the lot number is the first number shown in this entry below (I assumed it was the winning ticket number). This is the info I got from Ancestry.com Georgia Cherokee Land Lottery, 1838 (actually 1832) Number Name Residence County 172 25th Dist, 2nd Section, Cherokee Allen Martin Davis's Gwinnett 180 26th Dist, 3rd Section, Cherokee Allen Martin Davis's Gwinnett Are the entries in the "Number" column the ticket number or the lot number? In the census records I have found for him in Cass/Bartow, I only have the township names. We had heard he lived in Cartersville, but it seems he was not in Cartersville proper, but in townships or districts within it. 1850 - District 12 1860 - District 114, Stilesboro PO 1870 - Haven't found him yet.1880 - Stilesboro, ED #3 1900 - Iron Hill, Militia District 1471 1910 - Iron Hill, Militia District 1471 Hope you can help. Thanks for offering.Brenda ANSWER: First Brenda if you want my help, I must ask that you stop getting all your info from Ancestry. They have several of my Cass/Bartow people from the 1840 census in Carroll County when they were here in Cass. It has really caused a roar. Now. I have where Martin Davis bought from Johnson Sorton on the 3 day of Jan 1838 land lot 188 Dist 16 Sec 3 ok on the 6 day of January 1838 it says he was from Benton Co. Ala. Selling the same land lot same dist same section to John Kennedy, This is in Deed book C 1837-1838 Where I see Gwinnett and Cherokee I do not know unless he had gone to that county and purchased land lot 172 in the 25th Dist and land lot 180 in the 26th dist. Cass/Bartow has never had a 114 District, Stilesboro PO We have had an Iron Hill Militia Dist. But not sure about the 1471, the militia Dist was different from the land lot Dist.# Jean

.Re: Cass/Bartow County research From: gwhtx70@aol.com Well, I'm trying to locate the family of Richard Bledsoe Bell (1846-1912), son of Richard Thomas Bell (1828-1856) and Martha A. Bledsoe (daughter of Moses Bledsoe and Lucy Ann Bowling of Oglethorpe Co., Georgia). Martha A. Bledoe was born in 1836, who later married about 1859 William Raiden, and William and Martha lived in Bartow County and raised their family as well as Martha and Richard's children. Richard and Martha were married in Oglethorpe County, Georgia, on 9/3/1849. Richard Bledsoe Bell is buried, I believe, in Cass Cemetery, Bartow Co., Georgia. He married by about 1880 Sarah "Sally" Salina Epps. I have no info on her family, and am trying to find others from the same family. Their descendants that I am direct descendant of are from Adairsville and Cartersville. I am also trying to find the families of Will W. Price 1846-1927, son of a John Price and Pauline (may be 'Polly' for Mary??) Godfrey, who married Ancy Bell Kay 1864-1925 (I am looking for all of these peoples' families). I was told by my great-grandmother who was born in Cassville, Bartow County, that the courthouse burned and many records were lost? She died when I was 25, but had memory loss, and for the last 10 years of her life, wasn't able to remember anything much at all, much less family histories. If you have any information, please let me know. I live so far out in Texas, and have no time to travel to Georgia (I've never even been to Bartow county) that any help is great I was wondering if you knew anything about Dewey Cemetery, which is listed in a book I found Where is the cemetery located,Gary Hamilton
