Brownlow Family "Jason Lee Edwards" COLMAYO@email.msn.com James Madison Brownlow and Sarah Elizabeth Phillips James Madison (Bud) Brownlow , son of James A. H. Brownlow and Jane Anne Austin, Was born June 1, 1852 in Forsyth Co., Georgia. In about 1855 he moved with his family to Van Wert in Polk Co., Georgia. After his father returned home from war they moved to Bartow Co., Georgia. On May 1, 1879 he married Sarah Elizabeth (Lizzie) Phillips, daughter of James Phillips and Rhoda Martha Collins. She was born Nov. 13, 1861 in Bartow Co., Ga. The story is told that she was born while her father was off fighting for the Confederacy when she was born. One day while her and her mother were in town when a man came walking up the tracks. Her mother looked up and said "Well Lord, yonder comes Jim Phillips". Soon after that her ather died of a sickness he had contracted in the army. She only got to spend a few days with her father. After his death Sarah ,along with her mother and sister, had to survive on their own. . The story is told that during reconstruction they would take pine boughs and attach them to the side of their house for shade in the summer. . James and Sarah had the following children: George Lester Brownlow b. March 14, 1880, Annie Lee Brownlow b.September 12, 1881, married Hicks Carter December 28, 1907,Rhoda Judson Brownlow b. August 27, 1883, Willie Estelle Brownlow b.April 26, 1886, married Bartow Carter February 25, 1917, Virgil Ephriam Brownlow b. March 1, 1888, and Oliver Johnson Brownlow b. July 8, 1895, married Ethel Briton February 10,1924. In about 1900 James moved back to Van Wert. Then in abt 1910 they bought an old white house in Aragon. James and his family grew what they needed to eat and any thing they couldn't grow they bought. During the World Wars train loads of soldiers would stop in Aragon and the family would take flowers to them. Many of those men went over to Europe and never returned. Every year for Sarah's birthday her children would throw her a big party which would be attended by sometimes over two hundred people. It was not un common for Governor Talmadge to stop by as well. They would take the furniture out of the house and line the walls with tables of every kind of food imaginable. They would hire local women to do some of the cooking. The main food was a huge pot of stew that was cooked over a fire. There was always plenty at the Brownlow house. James was a member of Prospect Baptist church. He died on Jan 3, 1931 and is buried in the church cemetery next to Sarah who passed away on April 15, 1951.

"Clemons, Marlin L CIC"
I have a Jesse Swain who married Talitha Smith in
1818--this may have been in Franklin Co. or even in SC or TN. At any rate this family was on the Gordon Co. Census living in the (Indian Name) Ooglathlaga or something like that. They went to the Salem Baptist Church there and there was something about Lily Pond--was that a community? (Maybe near Adairsville?) Their daughter Mary Ann Swain married Joseph Lockhart Neel on 2 Nov 1848 and those Neels were in Cartersville for a long time. because we can't find the will of James Lockhart Neel and he died in 1909 and was an attorney. I wonder if it was somewhere else?? another county? My number is 770-227-0577 if you have
some suggestions. Many thanks, Anne Ponder in Griffin

Jablonski family Connie May jalc4@bellsouth.net
I was told by my cousin Diane Wright that you might be able to help me
on my Jablonski family line. My grandmother was Elinor Mary Jablonski, she went by Nell. She married Carl Olander Hames. Her father was Paul Rudolph Jablonski and her mother was Sarah Elizabeth Norrell. Nell had four brothers: Gus, Charlie, Henry and Joseph, she had two sisters, Marianna (who I believe died while young) and Margaret. Any information would be helpful. If there is a family file could I obtain copies. Please let me know if there is a charge.
Thank you for your help and I hope your husband gets better. (Diane told
me he had been sick.) Connie Hames May

Sarah Brownen & Jonathon Kinney 1850 jackson Co., Census Sam Lenaues slenaeus@westga.edu I found the copy of the 1850 Jackson County, GA Census you sent me to be very interesting. It seems that our family history my not be exactly correct. At least the information is not correct some where. Family history that we have says "Brothers Ben, Tom and John Kinney left North Carolina in a covered wagon. They settled in Bartow County, Georgia."
it was later that my John Kinney married and bought 100 acres of land in Jackson County. Yet the 1850 Jackson Co. Ga Census shows Jonathan Kinney & Sally Brownen married 19 Oct 1831 in Jackson Co. Georgia and all their 9 children born in Ga. were all with Sarah in Gerigia in 1850. Jasson "jasson@wac.com" has William son of Jonathan Kinney & Sarah (Sally)Browning being born 1829 TN not GA on a census. Jason, can you tell us what census listing you found William on? Could there be 2 Jonathan & Sarah's? There is only one Jonathan one the 1870 Census for Bartow Co. Martha age 58 Born SC. Too old to be the daughter of Sarah & Jonathan (Martha b. 1843) but could possibably be the wife of Ben or Tom Kinney who settled Bartow Co., GA with their brother John. the 1850 Census page you sent me does have several things I had not had. 1. marriage of Jonathan Kinney & Sally Brownen (19 Oct 1821 Jackson Co., GA)
2. vitals for Thomas Kinney (26 May 1830 - 19 Feb 1901 Buried at Mt.Creek Baptist, Jackson Co., GA)3. spelling of Brownen (we had Browning)As you point out I think it is very possible that Samuel & Jonathan Kinney are brothers. It might be that Samuel & Jonathan's line settled Jackson Co., Georgia or Franklin Co., GA, Jonathan & Sarah (Sally)Brownwn married in GA and settled later else where North Carolina and/or TN near the Brownen's or Sarah may have returned to NC with her children to live w/ her relatives after Jonathan's death. The three sons left NC by covered wagon for Bartow Co. Georgia. The brothers then moved from Bartow to Jackson Co. to be near their uncle Samuel and Sarah moves back to the family place in Jackson Co. Ga allowing them all to make the 1850 Census. John the oldest 27 at the time of the census doesn't marry till 1859 at 36 years of age.It is also possible that some of the census data is not correct. What do you think?
