Searching for the Yarbrough family From: BillYarbro@aol.com Hi Jean, I am looking for information that will help me with some vital missing links. I am trying to locate a Lewis Yarbrough and wife (Cora Doyle) who resided in Cass County in 1900. They had four children (Clarence, Frank, Vernon and Viola). Lewis was born in South Carolina in 1938 (according to sources). I need information on Lewis such as place of birth and parents' names and birth year (if mine is incorrect). I was referred to you by someone at the Family History Center of the Church of the LDS. Respectfully Billy Yarbrough, Jr.

ANSWER In the 1840 Cass County Census a Lewis Yarborough is listed with 3 males and 3 females. Living on either side of him was Sothron Higg and Joseph Baker, I do not find any Doyle families. Sonora Academy From: BettyA5058@aol.com Jean, I would like to find out more information about the Sonora Academy, which was a school in Bartow/Cass Co back in the 1860-1870's. Would like to find where it was located and if there might be any records from the school's past. Sincerely, Betty Mitchell ANSWER: In checking the History of Bartow County, I did not find a Sonora Academy, I live not too far from Sonoraville and I do know that in Gordon County, (about 4 – 5 miles from Bartow County is a very old Rock High School. I will check and see if at one time it was the Sonora Academy. I believe Sonora Academy would be in Gordon County.

Dear William F.: Thank you for your correspondence regarding the proposed Senate Resolution for Family History Month.. Within the last month some 14,167,329 people researched their family history and 24 million people have used the Web and email to locate or hunt for family or friends with whom they had lost touch. Researching ancestry is a very important component of self identity and can lead to long-sought-after family reunions or life saving stories. Approximately sixty percent of Americans have expressed an interest in tracing their family history. At present there are some 2,500 genealogical societies in the United States that represent approximately a million people who belong to these groups.

With this in mind, you will be pleased to know that I am a co-sponsor of the Family History Month Resolution, which designates the month of October as "Family History Month" and requests that the President issue a proclamation calling on all Americans to observe the month with appropriate ceremonies and activities. There is no doubt that the study of family history is growing in popularity and is an important tool in researching ethnic identity and genetic health concerns. Thank you for your correspondence. Most respectfully, Max Cleland United States Senator The above letter was written in regards to correspondence of Orin Hatch’s proposal of making October Family History Month. ( I wrote letters in support of this proposal.)
