Welcome to the Ivy Place's "Roots and Branches"

I am adding more information about Elizabeth Jane Adaline/Adeline Pace Cason Daughter of John Pace and Nancy Camp. She was was born November 24, 1833 in Cobb County, GA, and died February 04, 1915 in Mills County, TX. Elizabeth's first husband, Louis/Lewis Cason was the son of Joesph Cason (abt 1800 SC-Abt 1886) and Elizabeth Camp(abt 1801 GA- abt 1885) and was possibly related to Elizabeth.

She and Louis/Lewis were married on April 06, 1856 in Paulding County, Georgia. It is not known for sure if Louis died or if Elizabeth divorced him. The story is that Louis/Lewis deserted the CSA and hid in the mountains.

Anyway, Elizabeth married Pleasant James (January 18, 1809 TN- April 18, 1893 TX), son of Labon James sometime in 1865.

Pleasant had 17 children with his first wife, "Annie". I do not know how many children were living with Pleasant and Elizabeth but do know that some did besides her children with Louis/Lewis Cason and their Children.

According to Bruce Howard in an email msg,

"John and Nancy objected to the marriage of Lewis and Adaline, probably because of their relationship. Adaline married him anyway, and after the birth and death of their first child, Nancy, in 1857 they left the county. And, as we know by the time of the war they were living somewhere in Tennessee. You know pretty much the story from that point. What you don't know is that when her father died in 1870 the rest of the family had absolutely no knowledge of where she was or what had happened to her. She apparently had made no contact with the family at all after they left Paulding County. My(Bruce Howard's) grandfather said that his father told him that they, meaning Lewis and Adaline, went west and were never heard from again. And no one in the family knew of her fate. When John's estate was settled up all of the heirs received their share of the estate, but not Adaline. She was not mentioned and apparently no one in the family knew where to find her. Anytime someone left the area and went in the direction of the setting sun and didn't write home or have contact with anyone back home, they "went west and were never heard from again." That was the extent of their knowledge.

Had it not been for David Hedgepeth many years ago joining the Pace Society of America and publishing a query I might never have known what became of her either. All I knew up to that point was her name and who and when she married and that she and her husband left the county and never returned. So, now you know the "rest of the story.".....................
