Notes:
1860: James had two sons Robert and Hiram King Jones who were Northern
Sympathizers, both were conscripted into the Confederate Army Oct 1863 at
Columbusville, North Carolina, then taken to Welden, North Carolina to serve in
Matthew Love's Company. They deserted and walked to Cumberland Gap, Tennessee.
Robert and Hiriam enlisted into the Union Army and served in Co.H, 2nd North
Carolina Volunteer Mounted Infantry and were discharged 26 Jun 1865.
1880: James(58) is a farmer with wife Matilda(44)(2nd wife) seven with children
Sherman(14), Burnsides(12), Seamore(10), Mary M.(9), Samuel(6), Lincoln(4),
Alfred(1), and with three step-children Thomas Pace(24), John Pace(23),and
Benjamin Pace age(19). James fathered 13 children from two wives. He moved to
Wise County Texas from 1887-1894. In 1895 he relocated to Washington County,
Oregon. James and family returned to Henderson County, North Carolina in 1904,
several children remained in Orgeon.
