About 1988 I started to wonder how long the Joraslafsky family had been in Australia. My parents and grand parents had been born here, so I decided to try to determine who was the first person in each family line to arrive. Little did I know, of course, this was only the beginning....
The earliest of my direct ancestors to arrive was James Becket (gggg grandfather) who arrived on the Surprise in 1790. My Convicts
The last to arrive appears to be Bridget Nugent (my great grandmother) who arrived in South Australia some time in the 1880's. My Families
Thomas arrived from England with wife, Caroline Foster and children about 1836. Lived at "The Oaks" in Camden, moved to "Lorn End" on the Murrumbidgee near the site of Wagga Wagga in 1848, later moved to Kyeamba Ck. Died at Wagga Wagga in 1885.
James married Ann Calcut in 1791 in NSW. They settled in the Seven Hills district, and had five children.
George married Martha Chamberlainin 1797 in NSW. They settled in the Seven Hills district and had 10 children.The Best family spread along what is now the Hume Highway, and owned properties near Wagga and Gunning.
Bridget married Morgan Power. They settled in the Seven Hills district, and had two sons.
Ann married James Beckett
William was born 1774 at Winchester, Hampshire. He was transported to New South Wales in 1802. In 1803 he married Mary Kearns but they separated in 1807. In 1808 his common-law wife was Elizabeth Sheckel. They settled in the South Creek area . William died in 1823 and Elizabeth in 1842. They had ten children.
Martha married George Best
William married Catherine Murphy at Cashel, Co Tipperary, Ireland in 1834. They migrated to Australia with their four sons on Aurora arriving at Port Phillip on 31st March 1850. William died at Wagga Wagga NSW in 1894.
John
George born about 1828 in Bristol, England. He married Elizabeth Baker in Wagga Wagga NSW in 1853. He was the licencee of the Red Lion Hotel in Wagga until his death in 1884.
Thomas married Elizabeth Halloran in Ireland about 1815. He was transported to New South Wales in 1824 . In 1829 he applied for his wife and two children to be sent to NSW at the expense of the Govt. Elizabeth arrived by 1832 and they settled in the Mittagong area. Thomas died at Mittagong in 1863, Elizabeth at Wagga Wagga in 1872.
Franz Anton Joraslafsky arrived South Australia in 1849. His Naturalization Certificate dated 1850 stated he was a native of "Prussia, in Germany ", occupation farmer. In 1853 he married Mary Bracelin in Adelaide. By 1854 Franz had moved to Aldinga, SA, where he died in 1899. Franz and Mary had 9 children.
John - born about 1840 Cork, Ireland. Married Ann Bacon in Ireland. John and Ann's daughter Annie (my gt grandmother) born 1858 Western Australia. No record has been found to verify Ann's death, however John married Ann Hurley in Fremantle, WA in 1864. He was a pearler based in Cossack , WA. Ann Hurley McCarthy died 1898 at Onslow, WA and John McCarthy died 1907 in Perth.
Fanny was born 1811 Co Cavan, Ireland .She was the 10th child of William Montgomery & Fanny Matchett. Fanny married Robert Patterson in Ireland about 1830, and accompanied him to Australia on Clyde, arriving in Sydney 15 Feb 1833. Fanny died in the Wagga Wagga district of NSW in 1873. At least one of Fanny's siblings migrated to Canada.
Elizabeth and John Dalton had at least one child Hannah, who was christened at St John's, Parramatta on 7 Apr 1793. Elizabeth married William Kentwell in 1796, Murtagh Shields and Thomas Tompkinsin 1820.
Bridget was born about 1867 in Craigginock, Co Clare, Ireland. She married Garreth Barrow in Burra , South Australia in 1890. After the birth of 3 daughters, Barrow died in 1894 and in 1898 Bridget married Otto Joseph Joraslafsky. Otto and Bridget had six children. Bridget died in 1923.
arriving in Sydney 15 Feb 1833. Robert worked as manager of a number of properties around NSW before purchasing "Gerilgambeth" near Wagga in 1866. He died and was buried on the property in 1880.

Eleanor married William Welsh
Albert Edward (Alf) was born in Middlesex, England in 1853. He married Annie McCarthy in Roebourne, Western Australia in 1877.They were pearlers in the Nth West until 1905 when they moved to Carnarvon, then Perth. By 1910 the family had moved to South Australia, where Alf died in Adelaide in 1931.
William married Eleanor Rice
