James Becket was tried at Shropshire Assizes,Shrewsbury 23 Oct 1788, Transported for Life per SURPRISE 1 arr Pt Jackson 26 July 1790. His native place was recorded as Radnor and he had been working as Brickmaker in Birmingham .

The Women of the 1790 Neptune - Anne Needham p60 ......Ann Calcut was described as a spinster of Handsworth, and was charged with stealing a fan and a silver tablespoon as well as one cotton gown, one black silk bonnet, one linen apron, three linen caps, one pair of plated shoebuckles and one muslin handkerchief from Charles Sowter and his wife, Mary, who were bound over to give evidence. Evidence was also given by a man named Richard Bruce, who may have made the arrest. Charles Sowter lived in Handsworth. The Address of Prisoners was frequently given as the place of their arrest. The Parish Records did not reveal any Calcuts at Handsworth.

James and Ann were married in 1791, and settled in the Seven Hills district.
